I originally had the Skype Add-On for IE7 installed but it no longer appears, apparently due to a glitch. I also use Firefox and it has not ever appeared, despite uninstalling Skype and then reinstalling it. I have searched the Skype website and haven't found how to reinstall the add-on. Does anyone know how to reinstall the Skype add-on for Firefox and IE7?

As a point of clarification, this is not in reference to the Skype toolbar for IE7 and Firefox, but the add-on button that allows phone numbers on webpages to be called via Skype directly from the webpage.
Peter Kalmström
Hi,
I am delighted that you like the add-on/extensions that allow you to call any phone number found on a web page.
Please install Skype again and make sure that you select the Option to "Install the Skype add-on for Internet Explorer" or "Install the Skype extension for Firefox" during your install.
I apologize for the trouble!

Thank you for the response. This completely resolved the issue in Firefox but my Internet Explorer add-on does not function as well. For example, I may go to a website once and the phone numbers are not highlighted but then I can go a second time and they are. The Skype add-on is active in IE, as shown in the attached images.

Might the add-on not be fully compatible with IE7, which explains the inconsistency?

Thank you!

Peter Kalmström
Hi,
The Skype add-on for Internet Explorer has a toggle button which turns the highlighting on and off. Could you please check that it is toggled on?

Hi Peter,

Does the Skype Add-On work on Firefox for OS X?

A big shame if it doesn't as I love the way it converts phone numbers to Skype links in my online CRM smile.png

Hi,
Regretfully the Skype extension for Firefox does not yet work on Mac, I am sorry to say.

Hello there.

I have had this same issue. I was attempting to use the feature, which had up to this point worked flawlessly, and it decided to stop working. I uninstalled Skype, reinstalled and I was never given a choice. The install tore through so fast and re-logged in... I never even SAW a choice. What can I do to get it back? IT is a feature I use more than anything else.

Thank your for your response.

( I do indeed have version 3.6 installed )

I went to my other PC, RAR'ed the folder: {B13721C7-F507-4982-B2E5-502A71474FED} and then un-archived it into the extensions folder of Firefox, restarted Firefox... and now it works!

The file: skype_ff_toolbar_win.jar in the chrome subfolder is the ticket:

Uninstalling took it all out and installing never asked about the toolbar again.

When you start the install process there is an options button at the bottom. Click that and it has a check box for installing the addon for firefox.
RonJ
Does this include the new 3.8 version?

the fellow above me and I and one other ARE NOT BEING GIVEN A CHOICE TO CHECK ANYTHING- the installer goes straight through without any check box. please read the posts thoroughly before giving advice that has already proven not to work. AAARG, this is frustrating!
Peter Kalmström
Hi
I am sorry you feel so very frustrated about this!
The Options dialog can only be seen when you download the full installer, not when you do an upgrade from within Skype (help menu).
When you download the full installer and run it you will get a button with the caption Options in the lower left corner of the screen.
Another option is to download the latest BETA versions of the IE and FF add-ons from:
https://developer.skype.com/SkypeToolbars/

Hope that puts you at ease! :-)

Hi Peter,

Thanks for all the good recommendations. I've now reinstalled v3.8.0.115 and enabled both the IE and FF add ons. It works fine in IE, but not in FF. It shows as installed and enabled, but it's not showing up on the webpages.

Can you give us any more guesses as to why it might not be working in Firefox?
cbehrens
Problem solved.

It turned out that the Skype toolbar icon is automatically added to the Firefox Navigation toolbar. I normally have that toolbar turned off, so didn't see the icon until I went searching for it. As soon as I found and clicked on it, the phone numbers became activated.

I installed SkypeFFPlugin.2.2.0.87. It is currently listed as still in Beta, so I'd like to make two recommendations for its final release:

1. It will be important to have the code unconditionally enable the number highlighting as "on" when first installed. Somehow mine was not.

2. A lower priority recommendation would be to have the installer ask which toolbar to add the icon to, with a list of choices to select from. (I've customized my navigation icons to be on another toolbar, and disabled the Navigation toolbar to increase screen real estate, so the icon was invisible after being installed.)

I hope this helps make for a better product. I love Skype. Keep up the great work!
Peter Kalmström
Hi,
Thank you for your feedback and for letting us know the source of the problem!
Much appreciated.
The phone number highlighting is supposed to be on by defult - no doubt about that! We will do our best to research why it was not in your case!

I Reinstalled Skype but did not get a prompt for installing the add in and it does not bappear in my firefox

I am able to see the SKYPE add-on button on Firefox's navigation bar and by default it is always on. However, when I open a web page, such as to check my yahoo email, none of the phone number is actually highlighted. I have to manually choose the default countries by clicking the add-on button and confirm it in order to be able to make phone calls from the webpage directly. Furthermore, if I view a new email in the same window, i have to repeat the same process again. Basically, the add-on for firefox is not automatic per se.

I have the latest SKYPE and Firefox. Could please advise?

Cheers.
Peter Kalmström
Hi Jor,
Is the Yahoo mail by any chance https based? By default the web add-ons are disabled on https sites.
jor
Thanks for your quick response. Indeed, yahoo mail is http based. If I remember it right, the older version of SKYPE did work well with this site. Please correct me if I am wrong, Cheers.

i'm using IE 7.0.6001.1800 and can't get the skype button to appear. i've uninstalled skype through the control panel, and re-downloaded the newest version as of today. the skype button still won't appear.

when checking tools > manage add-ons > enable or disable add ons, the skyp button is not listed.

short of trying the beta version, any suggestions?

thanks!
Peter Kalmström
Hi docflash,
When you install Skype please click on the Options button in the first installer screen! There you will find a few checkboxes with the optional Skype items. Since you have Firefox install you should get checkboxes for both Skype extension for Firefox and Skype add-on for Internet Explorer.

If you make sure those checkboxes you should get phone number recognition in both Internet Explorer and Firefox.

Please let me know if that doesn't help!

Hi Mr. Kalmstrom, I do hope that skype will be developing the add-in version for skype for OS X (Mac version) Mozilla. That feature is extremely useful. Would you know if Skype is working on it already? Thanks and regards! Carlos

thank you..

Sorry, reinstalling skype does not work. I am using both Firefox 2.0.0.17 AND 3.0.0.4, and neither of them show the skype extension in the upper right corner like they used to.

When I downloaded skype - i got the firefox add on also.
However, after that YahooMail reading pane has lost its scroll bar.
after googling around, I found a note in the YahooMail forums that the skype add on is this problem and their recommendation is to not use the skype addon for now.
After removing the skype add on, the YahooMail reading pane now works properly and has the scroll bar.

is there a fix for this ?

and is there a way to put back the skypeaddon without uninstalling and re-installing skype? (I dont want to add another toolbar as it is taking away from my reading space on my browser.

thanks.

Hi,
I am delighted that you want the add-ons in both your browsers. My apologies for the missing information on the website.
To get the add-ons in both Internet Explorer and Firefox you need to go into the Options screen (found in the first screen of the installation wizard) and check both the boxes for:
* Skype add-on for Internet Explorer
* Skype extension for Firefox

I uninstalled skype using my control panel. I then re-downloaded the latest version of skype, after the install, the add-on worked on IE7, which I DON'T use. But it wouldn't work on the latest version of Firefox. I used the automatic install the first time and it displayed that the firefox and internet explorer add-ons would be installed. I then unistalled it, and then I chose the manual install, I made sure all the add-ons were selected and still the same thing happened after I intalled skype, this is a load of garbage, oh and my voip phone, which worked fine before with the previous version of skype, is now pretty much useless. I can't dial with it, the only thing I can do is speak into it and listen, I might as well be using a head set because I still have to dial with my keyboard now. I use a Radian Technologies RST-101 usb phone, if anyone has any info on this as well that would be great.

Kinda strange but I was just about to update my msn and I accidentally clicked the "what's new" button, anyway, this opened up firefox to show me the page with the information on what's new with msn, when, just as the page finished loading, the firefox add-ons window poped up, this was about 1 hour after I posted the above statement, and showed that I now had the skype add-on for firefox installed. This makes no sense but I'm happy it is now working.

I read your instructions as my skype call button has dissapeared from my firefox as well and un-installed and re-installed skype...

i did not see a place to turn on that extension during the insallation...

how do I get it to work?

I am running IE7 with Vista and Skype 4.00. I have installed, reinstalled and reinstalled Skype tring to get the add-on to make phone numbers active. I have never been given the option. I simply cannot find it. I have followed the instructions below and they have not helped. Why isn't it available in Options?
wamaker
I got tired of tring to fix this. I went to the movies. When I came home, the add-on appeared in my links. I suggest you try this....the movie was Summer Hours which may be important. bigsmile.png

Yes, many of us have the problem of the skype plugin disappearing as it has for me on both IE7 and Firefox.

Can't we get a fix? REinstalling doesn't work for me and I don't like the new 4.0
NicolasRediculous
The numbers in my browser decided to just quit working with the skype add-on. I have also installed, re-installed, upgraded, downgraded, rebooted, etc... I have checked in tools in IE7 and the add-ons are listed. But the numbers still have not converted back to skype mode. This has happened on two separate computers. One of them running Vista 64x, and the other plain old Vista. It happened with the 3.8 version of Skype and now the 4.0 version. Any suggestions on resolving this issue? I'm about to go Office Space on these computers.
Peter Kalmström
Hi Nicolas,
We just published a new version of the Skype extension for Firefox and Internet Explorer. It is included with the Skype 4.1 BETA that you can find here:
http://www.skype.com/download/skype/windows/beta/

Could you please download that and make sure that on the very first screen (of the installer) you go into Options and there you select to either upgrade or install the Skype add-on for Internet Explorer and/or Skype extension for Firefox.

Please let me know how that turns out for you!
Baileybc8548
I installed Firefox 3.5 and now the Skype phone number add-on appears to not work. The IE add-on does work properly, however. Is the Skype 4.1.0.136 version Firefox add-on compatible with Firefox? I bet if I reinstalled the earlier version of Firefox, the add-on would work. I can see the add-on in the Tools menu for Firefox, so I know it is present.
Peter Kalmström
Hi Bailey,
Thank you for reporting this problem!
We have tested with Firefox 3.5 and it works fine in our test machines.
Please contact me via Skype and I will do what I can to resolve the issues you are facing.
uofiusf
I have installed the latest versions of both Skype (4.1.0.141) and Firefox (3.5.1) on both an XP and Vista PCs. The plug-in on the Vista PC works fine but I can not get the Skype plug-in for FF 3.5.1 to work on the XP PC...even after multiple Skype installs (and reboots) following the tutorials [selecting 'options' on the first installer screen and checking the desired Mozilla FF plug-in].

Any help in getting this to work is appreciated. Thank you.
Peter Kalmström
Hi uofiusf,
Thank you for reporting this problem. Could you give me more details?
Does the extension show up among your Firefox extensions? Do you see the Skype button in the top right corner of Firefox? Do you have any other Firefox extensions installed?
We will of course do all we can to resolve this issue!
andylev
Had the same problem. Firefox 3.5.1 kept crashing when using Gmail contacts.
I removed the skype/firefox add in and the problem went away. So, either firefox has broken the skype addin or vice versa.
Peter Kalmström
Hi Baileybc8548,
Thank you for reporting this problem.
Please review the installation video in my signature. It will show you that you have to select each of the browser add-ons. If your default browser is IE, you will NOT get it in FF and vice versa.
uofiusf
Peter Kalmström:

Thanks for alerting me to the Skype button in the upper right corner of Firefox (now version 3.5.2). Opening it revealed the option to check 'turn number highlighting on'. It works now!

To your other previous questions, yes Skype was (and still is) showing as one of several FF extensions I have installed.

Thank you.
Peter Kalmström
Hi uofiusf,
I am delighted it worked out :-)
John BC
Hi,
I have a slightly different problem to that above. The skype button does not appear on my IE 8 browser on XP (swedish).
I've uninstalled and re-installed skype 4.1 with the add-on checked, and tried the beta toolbar download which gave an error of "newer version installed".
The toolbar button is not visible on the manage icons menu, nor is it listed with other add-ins on the internet options dialog box.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
John
djmski
Hi, I'm using Linux and so cannot install using a *.msi file. Do you have a firefox .xpi file?
Peter Kalmström
Hi,
My apologies for not answering before:
John: Are you an administrator on your computer? You must have those permissions to install the add-on for IE?
djmski: Regretfully we don't yet support Firefox on Mac or Linux. We are moving in that direction but have some ways to go yet.
