Full Version: skype going offline

skype 3.6.127 beta seems to be going offline quite frequently. I don't remember the other versions doing this.
It could be because they changed some firewall settings, but I just noticed this with 3.6.

I check on skype and it is reporting "connecting" rather than "online". Did anything change on the networking side or am I just seeing some changes on my network?

Router/Modem connectivity test

Telnet Test:1. start->run->cmd

2. Click "OK" and a console window should appear

3. Type "telnet -ex 195.215.8.141 33033" or “telnet –ex 212.72.49.141 33033” (without the quotes) and press enter

4a. if you see the "Connecting To 195.215.8.141..." text for an extended period of time (usually followed by "Could not open connection to the host, on port 33033: Connect failed"), then the problem is indeed with your network connection and *not* skype. (you might also want to try "telnet -ex yahoo.com 80" to see if your firewall is only blocking skype servers)

4b. if the console window goes blank, press "x" on the keyboard. if you see the following text: "Welcome to Microsoft Telnet Client / Escape Character is 'x' / Microsoft Telnet>" then telnet is working fine and the problem seems to be skype-specific indeed, so let us know and we'll investigate

2) Tracert Test:
Run tracert command.
Start
Run
Type: tracert www.skype.com
Ok
Is this test causing a connectivity loss?
If it does, it is a router problem.
Solution is to upgrade router firmware or replace it with different brand

skype 3.6.127 beta is going into "offline" mode by itself everyday.

I never had this problem with previous versions of skype. I can change the status back to online and it will connect straight away, but often after going to sleep and waking up the PC, the skype status will be offline again.

My vista dual core computer is mainly used as a media center and I'm using a plug called mcePhone for skype http://www.scendix.com/mcephone/. This might be the cause of the problem.

It is possible to change the status of Skype within Media Center using mcePhone. Or change the Status directly in Skype. Either way, it still eventually reverts back to offline.

Is anyone else having this problem? I'm probably going back to the non-beta version as all my friends are saying that I'm never online.

Do you allow you PC to go into the hibernate mode and is that when you have the problem, what happens if you just switch OFF hibenate mode and say switch off your monitor do you still have the same problem.

Yes, hibernate is enabled. If I switch off sleep / hibernate Skype 3.6 will stay online all night. But I usually want my computer to sleep when it is not being used, and when it does I usually find that Skype 3.6 has switched to Offline (or sometimes Not Available). As I use the PC as a media center, I don't always notice which state Skype is in, as it doesn't display on the media center screen. But friends and family said they couldn't see me on Skype, and when I looked it was always offline.

Now I've reverted back to 3.5 and it is staying online all the time.
