Starting with version 1.4.0.118 Skype for Linux offers support for localization.
All you need to do is:

1. Get QT tools ( http://trolltech.com/developer/downloads/qt/ )
2. Download english translation source from second post in this thread
3. Translate using the very straightforward Linguist tool!

To test and of course use your translation simply select "File -> Release" in Linguist and copy the .qm-file that is created into the directory /usr/share/skype/lang. Afterwards you can select your translation in the Skype options.

The static version is incomplete, it has several .ts translation files, including pt_pt (I need pt_br, but pt_pt is ok), but I couldn't find the .qm files. I've downloaded the dynamic version to get those files and copied them to /usr/share/skype/lang. Now I can switch the GUI language.

Please add the .qm files to 1.4.0.118 static...

Compiled language files (=qm) missing in static package is a known bug. Thanks for pointing it out nevertheless

Well, I've made a spanish translation (finally) but if someone want to revise it, it will welcome. I attach both, ts and qm files in a compressed tar.gz file.

Hello.

I've started translating Skype to Norwegian (Bokmål) using QT's linguist. It's about 70% done, I'll probably complete the translation sometime this week. I'm posting what I've done so far, so people who are interested can give me feedback on things that could be improved.

The attached zipfile contains both skype_no.ts and .qm.
To test this localization put skype_no.qm in /usr/share/skype/lang, change language to Norwegian in Skype options, and restart Skype.

EDIT2: The translation is now 100% done! The attached zipfile is updated.
EDIT3: Updated some regarding bookmarks.

Thanks for your concern but you're wrong. The language code is "sv".
"se" is the country code (according to ISO 3166-1 which is what you are referring to). I know Skype agree with me as it successfully detects the Swedish translation when I ask it to use it.

As you can see, the header on your link is "English country names and code elements". The language codes are specified in ISO 639-1 as you can see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ISO_639-1_codes.

well thank you so much for the translation, in my opionion there are some changes to discuss:


this is used for birthdays, you know you cannot say "Ieri, Marco è diventato 24" but you say "Ieri, Marco ha compiuto 24 anni" and you can translate as "%1, %2 ha compiuto %3 anni" I mean you have to use %# as you need in the right position, just do not translate LITERALLY the result is not Italian.

better: "%1, %2 compie %3 anni" che sarebbe: "Domani, Marco compie 27 anni" understood?
This can be useful also to other translators, you can move %# in the translated phrase, of course different languages put parts in different places


better: "Cronologia della chat" or shorter "Cronologia chat"

better: "Invia file a tutti i contatti di questa chat"

better: "Da sempre" we are talking about chat history, not romantic promises

You can fix files and make another gz with a new version, for example 1.1, in its name or something like that, and repost here with a new post.

I totally agree with your suggestions.
It was a "RC" translation, so I didn't check the correct matching.
I just literally translated some messages that weren't immediately clear waiting for a future revision.
