Hello folks-
I'm trying to use my Panasonic HVX-200 camera as a webcam. When I first hooked it up it worked fine for one chat then cut out half way through. Since then in a attempt to get it to work, I have upgraded my OSX to 10.4.10 and switched from Skype 2.6 to the 2.7 beta. Still to no avail.
Oddly enough the camera is recognized in Final Cut Pro and imovie. However, in ichat there is a message that states that the camera is in use by another application. Even when nothing else is running.
I thought maybe some settings on the camera had something to do with it, so I tried every config. I could think of.
Any insight would be helpful. Thanks.

Are you sure no other application is using the camera?

Check in System Preferences/Accounts/Login Items if any of the applications there has something to do with this.

Also check in Macintosh HD:Library/StartupItems if any applications exist there that might use the camera.

Have you tried creating a new account in Mac OS X and see if the camera works then? If yes, then it is probably either one of the above or some corrupt preference file or framework.

Try deleting the file User/Library/Preferences/com.skype.skype.plist

Also try deleting the folder User/Library/Application Support/Skype and see if anything changes.

Last, try running all the tasks of Onyx, especially those that involve the cleaning of cache.

Thank you for the reply, Demitris.

In Preferences/Accounts/Login items I have...
"Palm desktop background",
"iCalAlarmScheduler",
"CNQL1208 Button Manager",
"ItunesHelper",
and "Transport Monitor".
Of those 5, only "iCalAlarmScheduler" and "CNQL1208 Button Manager" are checked.

In Macintosh HD:Library/StartupItems I have...
"M-Audio Firmware Loader"
"PACESupport"
"Qmaster"
and "RosettaStoneLtdDaemon"

I don't see anything here that has anything to to with video, let alone Fire Wire. Do you? The M-Audio I suspect is associated with a USB to MIDI cable I used to have.
I've deleted preferences and Application Support/Skype a couple of times. And I also tried using the cam on iChat in a different login(used only for email). What if I delete everything associated with iChat? I don't use it anyway.
Tomorrow I will try Onyx.

THX again.

Yes, all the startup items seem (and are) irrelevant.

By the way, keep in mind that even those log in items are unchecked, they launch normally on startup. Checking means they are hidden from the dock.

Have you done all the latest updates in Software Update?

Since it used to work (even for once) then something must have happened. Have you installed anything after that first time? Any updates maybe?
