I think you're the one mixing words here.... I've tried Skype on Orange M600, M700 & TYTNii and the quality of the voice connection is pathetic... It continues to lag the longer it runs. I did get it to work on TYTNii with windows mobile 6 but it fails to work with windows mobile 6.1... COME ON SKYPE, GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER AS I'M GETTING FED UP WITH ALL THE EXCUSES!.... MY OTHER SKYPE PHONE IS A PHILIPS VOIP 841 AND IT WORKS GREAT... I WANT THE SAME FROM MY POCKET PC! GET MOVING....

APOLOGIES FOR THE MIXING WORDS BIT... I WAS REPLYING TO A PREVIOUS QUOTE BY THAT GEEK AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE WITH THE DODGY PHOTO!

JUST REALISED....HE WORS FOR SKYPE.... GREAT, PASS ON THE BOLLOCKING TO THE BIG BOSSES AND GET SOMETHING DONE!

I couldn't start skype as well using the latest version 2.2 on my HTC TyTN II windows mobile 6.1, The error says that:

A problem has occurred with shell32.exe.

Please tell Microsoft about this problem, at no cost to you. The data is used exclusively to improve products.

Skype not working on Windows Mobile 6.1 was a known problem as of last week.

Do a search on this forum, the answer is there and this issue is resolved now. Specifically, see posts in this thread:

http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=112059

Look for all post activity between July 26, 2008 and July 29, 2008. There is a link there for working version of Skype for Windows Mobile 6.1.

Can anyone help plse. I have a tytnII running WM 6 Professional, CE OS 5.2 1620 Build 18125. When I try and install both of the WM Skype apps I get an error message that these are not pcketpc apps. I see on the forum that there are many problems in getting this working on the tytn. Any suggestions on:
1. Whether I should upgrade my tytnII software
2. Which version of Skype and how to install it
3. Any other tricks to get it working properly.
Many thanks

This version still does not work with the HTC Mogul. I cannot hear the caller and they cannot hear me. I bought a year of Skype because I thought I could use it on my phone, but as it turns out I've been left in the dust for over 4 months.

You need to install the Skype for Windows Mobile Pocket PC.

No. Skype does not have a solution as of yet - I have the HTC 6800 and just using Skype I cannot hear the other end, and they cannot hear me. This is over WIFI, and my laptop over the same WIFI connection does work properly.

Skype should just admit, YES there is a problem with sound with the HTC.

Then tell us how and when you intend to fix it. Please?

As stated in the release notes .45 only fixes the wm6.1 startup issue.
I have forwarded the audio issue that affects the htc mogul.

I got this phone for the only purpose to use Skype, I got Skype for the same reason to use it on my cell phone... Please help me with this matter.. Thank you...

Edit: BTW, I am not meaning to say that I am trying to run both the PocketPC and Smartphone Skypes on this one phone, I just tried them both to see if either would install...

SkypeforPocketPC.exe must be executed on your PC! You need to have ActiveSync installed and when you connect your phone to PC (with USB or Bluetooth) ActiveSync will install Skype on you phone.
If you want to download and install directly on your phone, you must download the .cab file. This is the same procedure as with any other Windows Mobile application.

Sorry for getting back to you late, but I see you installed skype succesfully yes.png.
Skype presents you a screen at startup in which you can choose, 'wifi only'
or 'wifi and 3g'. You need to choose 'wifi and 3g'. Are you able to connect with any other program to the internet?

Well somehow it finally logged on, but the test call Eco call was VERY CHOPY and that was on the ATT 3G....

Another question, if I have the U.S. Unlimited Subscription Plan then why does it show that I have a $1.00 credit and why is it deduction from this credit and why do I get credit added to the balance of the for mentioned credit??? The other day I had $1.00 in credit, then today I had $1.45 and now I have $1.00 again... Why!?

Thanks for all the Help smile.png

I asked to verify. I can now confirm that you have not been charged. It seems to be a bug in this version's handling of subscriptions. Subscriptions were not arround when this version went gold, since then there were only fixes, no new features.

We are investigating why it is happening like that for you.

I have checked that you were not paying for those calls so on the payments side it's all okay, but the price is being showed out incorrectly.

Hello Peter. I bought a htc TyTN II one month ago, At the moment I couldn’t install and use any Skype version in my device. Could you tell me what I have to do? I read all the commentaries at the forum but I confuse, I’m not a technician and my knowledge isn’t so large. My mobile operator is 3 in Australia.
Thanks in advance

Download the Skype for Windows Mobile PocketPC .exe file to your computer and start it. If you have activsync installed and the phone connected it will automatically install on your phone.

I will keep this question here since this Thread looks like a good place to go for New Users...

Peter,

I am in Florida and we just had a Hurricane, so I am not sure if this is the cause of this issue or not, but I thought I would ask about it none the less...

When I talk to someone on my HTC 8525, regardless of them calling me or I them, they will hear a complete echo of what they had just said... This happens about 4 to 5 sec after the first word... I have tried this and I can verify that there is an echo and it is VERY Clear, meaning no static on repeat... Now on my end, the sound it good (a little muffled), and ZERO echo... Again I am not sure if this is due to weather conditions from the Hurricane, but then again, this issue still persists and the Hurricane was last week...

How can this issue be rectified???

As always, Thanks!

Edit: BTW, my Skype on my Laptop has no Echo at all...

3KGTVR4

I do have another issue...

When I use Skype with my 8525, the sound it relaid through the Speaker Phone and not the Ear Speaker... How do I route it to the Ear Speaker or can you even answer this being that it is a Hardware issue...

Hello Peter and all you folks!

This thread is intend for htc tyntII I know, but after reading all the post, I've noticed too much semblances with my 2 months old HTC touch.

I've been trying using skype since the first day I purchased this phone, getting generally bad performance.

My English isn't that good, you may have noticed smile.png so let me explain with examples my experiences so far:

- My cellphone cpu is a omap 200mhz, running at 260mhz almost all time. 128 mb memory
- windows mobile pro 6.0
- skype 2.2.0.38 for pocketpc
- echo canceling OFF. If ON got worst experience.
- all tests with WIFI at my work or at home. No edge/3g testing

tested clock:
100 mhz: skype freezes on calling test
200 mhz: lot of interruptions
260 mhz: less sound interruptions. usable

Calling to (@ 260mhz)

- skype to skype: working fine, calling a desktop computer at same city I am. By the way, I'm in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

- skype to skype: calling a friend's macbook in Vancouver-Canada: too much interruptions. better if we talk like a walk-talk, one speaking and the other just listening, waiting his time. some echo and delay

- skype to landline: the same above. Speaking with my brother who lives at a city 130km far from here is almost impossible. Sound not bad, no noise but to much interruptions. My brother said there was too much echo, but I didn't get no one.

- landline to skype: same above. annoying

- test: macbook vs htc. I called to my brother at his landline in his home. First using a macbook. Skype was great, I spoke for half a hour. no noise, no interruption, no delay. Just great. Immediately I call him using my htc: like above again, impracticable.

I've tried a bluetooth headset too, motorola ht820. works fine to listening music, skype stops the music when receiving a call. very good. But the conversation has the same problems.

Well, its a shame. What do you guys think about this? Is HTC a crap? Don't Skype like HTC hardware? Is WM6 the evil itself? Come on skype people! I'm paying 15 bucks for month to you waiting for the time I'll get rid of my cellphone company! smile.png

So, thanks you guys for the effort reading my decrepit English. Let me know when any solution or work around is found!

Regards..

Mauricio

God, I pity that poor Peter bloke. Why don't you read the thread before posting?

1) The ear-speaker cannot be accessed by Skype due to Windows Mobile limitations.
2) The microphone on your Tytn is at the bottom of the phone and works just as well from either side.
3) So why don't you just turn your phone around and put the speaker to your ear?

Hi All, I have read all the comments and very confused. Does Skype work or not and if so why does the new version on the internet not download. It keeps on saying "SkypeforpocketPC is not a valid pocket PC application" Can you please help. I have a HTC TyTN II Pro.

Well congrats on making yourself look like a Prick on your very first post, you Mommy must be proud...

If I would have seen the info, I would not have asked... I know that Skype can not be accessed via the BT, but I have not seen anything on the Ear Speaker issue... Oh and Jackass, I did search...

Please stop the name calling otherwise I will have to close this topic, thanks.

I will try to answer each question.
Regarding Echo. Hurricane is definately not the problem. If you are hearing the echo then the problem is on the other side. If it's a skype2skype call, ask them to use a headset or reduce speaker volume.
Regarding speaker issue, it is true that I have answer this in forum more times than I can remember. WM limits Skype in accessing speaker.

@mtrivelin: cpu is definately an issue and 260 is pretty low, but it is not the only issue, what internet connection do you use with htc? if wifi try setting to max performance. Also turn off echo cancelling in skype options, use a headset. At this time Skype on desktop will result in better quality every time due to the better audio engine (is is more cpu intensive too)
@Josh: thanks, I'll manage smile.png .
Farhanee: make sure you use the .cab file directly on you pocketpc or the .exe file on you computer, not the exe on pocketpc!

Regards,

Regards,

Thank you good sir, I concede and will watch myself wink.png

As for the echo, you misunderstood me or I may have not made myself clear, sorry about that.

The issue is, when someone calls me or I call them, THEY here a very clear echo of what they had just said; this happens aprox 4 to 5 sec after they begin to speak. It does not matter who calls me (meaning this issue happens to anyone I call or who calls me), the issue effects all calls on the receivers side.

Please help rectify this issue because the ONLY reason I got Skpye and the HTC was to drop my voice with ATT and run Data Only and then use Skype for my calls.

Thanks as always Peter and again, I apologies for my outburst smile.png

Oh ok, sorry for missunderstanding.
Do you use a wired headset? You should. Echo is an unfortunate sideeffect of the lack of access to the front speaker.

Thank you Peter for getting back. Yeah I figured out that it was the mic on the phone picking up the callers voice from the speaker phone and reverbing it back to them, lol... I have just been so busy with school, that I was not able to update the thread with my findings...

BTW, I know that BT is not really supported right now, but I have been reading that some are having success with using their BT with Skype calls... I have the Jabra BT800 (1.2 - I think), and it was considered the most advanced BT like 2 years ago IIRC, and it will pick up the call when in Skype, but the drop it with in seconds... What BT are you guys using that are having success with Skype calls!!?? I am assuming that the 2.0 2.1+EDR is what is being used successfully...

Again, I know that BT's are not supported, but I know that people are having success using them...

I'm having trouble using Skype on my TyTn II. I'm seeing a problem I haven't seen a solution for in this thread.

I've loaded the latest version of Skype for Win Mobile 6 (even tried the pro version for 6.1) but I still get a "Unable to connect to Skype Network. Please check your network connection".

I know I'm connected using WIFI since the browser works great as does my Slingbox connection. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I'm in CA using ATT Unlimited 3G as well. No problems with other aps either on 3G or wifi. Also, I never saw a setup screen that asks if I want to use 3G, WiFi or both as was indicated in another reply.
Rami_7
I think it has somthing to do with your network\router configurations.
I have the same problem at home although it works fine at the cofeeshop wireless wifi.

If you find an answer, I will be happy to know about it.
Thank,

I can't get access with either 3G or WiFi. Browser works fine for either.

When I open Skype, I get one screen that has the Sign In information. On the bottom of the screen are "Sign In" and "Quit". There is no "Options" menu.

Can you confirm which version I should be downloading and installing? Pro or non-pro for the Tytn II.

I'm guessing that the Skype application is not getting access to the network via either service (3G or Wifi). Is there a way to check this?

Thanks for the help...

Yes, options menu is not there before you manage to sign in.
I suggest you quit Skype, delete Skype folder from Application Data, then start Skype again. Now there should be a screen with a combobox, with wifi only selected as default. choose wifi and 3G.
This of course won't solve the problem with the wifi connection but should let you use 3g.
Have you tried it with any other wifi router?

Thanks for the help Peter. I did what you said, deleted the Skype folder (actually did this 3 times), fiddled, fiddled a bit more and now magically it worked. Had to reset the phone. Had to reload the network properties. Had to turn off wifi. Restart again. Then it worked on 3G. Turned on wifi. Now it works with either. Can't really say exactly what the cause was, but I'm a happy camper now.

I'm off to Skype someone, just for fun!

I also tried the smartphone version, but that displays pretty blurred (icons don't show, names look weird etc) and sound quality is the same or worse.

When I downoloaded cab file, installation was successful, but when starting skype such a messahe appears: "Couldn't find all the neccessary files to start Skype. Please try to install Skype again."

I've tried 3 times....

This was a problem noted back in July and I have the same issue now on a TyTN 2 straight out of the box.
I've had at least 6 attempts to reinstall (direct to TyTn from WiFi, Via Active Synch, different versions..) butI have not found an answer post; Do I need to manually remove the program before reinstalling? What else can I try?
Skype is crucial for my new company and the HTC will have to go back if I can't find a fix.
Thanks

Hi,

Skype works fine on the tytn II so lets try to figure out what is wrong in your situation.

You say you downloaded the .cab. I presume you downloaded the Pocket PC .cab cause that is the one you need for the tytn II.

Before installing again uninstall Skype from Remove programs and delete all skype files manually. There are 5 files, name starting with skype in windows folder. There is the skype folder in Program files and then the skype folder in application data.

Try installing again. Try to install to memory first not to sd card.

Regards,
flisstim
Thankyou Péter: I had assumed the TyTn2 was a smartphone; not Pocket PC.

It would be very helpful to have a summary box of the key points for the TyTn2 and Skype. Showing the version recommended, the lack of phone speaker / video capability, success with blutooth devices etc.

This might also reduce the risk of the mud slinging earlier in the thread (both combatants had a point!)

If is part of your remit to make a summary: That would be great. If not: My contribution to the community will be to summarise the 5 pages which took me 2 or 3 hours to digest last night and then post. The problem is some people might follow the whole thread before they get to the summary. How about a 'Read me First' or 'Top tips' at the begining of the thread.

Thanks again

Thankyou Péter: I had assumed the TyTn2 was a smartphone; not Pocket PC.

It would be very helpful to have a summary box of the key points for the TyTn2 and Skype. Showing the version recommended, the lack of phone speaker / video capability, success with blutooth devices etc.

On the download site there is a link:

Not sure what device you have? Find out now

Reading that would have led you to the right version.

Hey, Peter what's your opinion when finally engineers of skype will make it possible video-support for windows mobile ( I want to believe and hope it's going to be soon...) will I need to change my phone which is going to support 4th generation of internet (like WiMax let's say) or mine HTC TYTN ii with 3.5g will be enough?? My personal opinion is that Skype needs to focus on audio right now and get it right for everybody, when the reliability and quality required are good enough we can move into video realm. Again this is my my personal opinion. I can't talk about Skype future plans, sorry.
