When I try to download the Skype Web Toolbar for Mozilla Firefox at www.skype.com/download/skypewebtoolbar/firefox.html, I'm redirected to a page for the Skype Email Toolbar, which doesn't look like what I had in mind at all. Is the Firefox Toolbar withdrawn?

I would be careful using FireFox add ons, they often SERIOUSLY slow it down.

Hi
Yes, regretfully we have withdrawn the Skype Toolbar for Firefox.
The most important feature - phone number highlighting - is still available, though.
It is included in Skype 3.x. To make sure that you actually get it please go into Options during install and check the option "Install Skype extension for Firefox"
As Keith correctly says above having extensions/add-ons installed does slow down your browser somewhat. However we have done everything we can to make sure that the slow-down is as miniscule as possible and done in a way so that you will never notice. Also you can easily toggle the feature on/off so that you only enable it when you need it.

Glad to find an answer to firefox, but I was not given the opportunity to check the install skype extension for firefox during my update to 3.5.0.239. Thanks

Hi Peter,
Very sorry to hear that you didn't get that option. Seems that the upgrade is made to be a bit too easy.
You might need to download the setup from www.skype.com and run the setup to see that option. I apologize for the trouble!

Hi
during install and reinstall of firefox the extension "most important feature - phone number highlighting " went away. Now I want it back. I updated my skype to the latest version 3.5.0.xxx, but while updating (from skype> help> check for updates option), I did not get an option to re install that phone number highlighting extension.
Can I download this extension from some url. I think I would just need the xpi file for the same.
Please help!!
Thanks
Sachin

Hi Sachin,
Very glad you like the Skype extension for Firefox. Regretfully you have to download the entire Skype setup to get the Options dialog. It is not displayed when upgrading.

Why are the Skype features for Firefox turned off by default and require a reinstall requiring option fiddling - checking the only option not checked?
i.e (Not IE) all other options are enabled but not Firefox?
Documentation at:
http://www.skype.com/intl/en/help/guides/f...ension/?lang=ensays:
"When you installed Skype, you also installed the Skype extension for Firefox"
But that's not true.
One other question. I cannot find any documentation about object/javascript detection of the Skype extension w/in Firefox. Do you have any pointers?
TIA.

No wonder you say it slows down display when you guys insert via DOM the code below for a
SINGLE number.
- Still faster than IE...
- Can't be bothered to work out the percentage of that code that relates to "roundedness" - corporate style guidelines gone mad...
- There's all the style definitions right there to override e.g. phone number in bold when space is at a premium...
- See the way to cross-browser "Skype plugin detection for IE/Firefox" - at an appropriate point (e.g. login) include a hidden IFRAME with a Skype detectable phone number along with JS code in the container document to interval check expected DOM node size - If it's gone thru the roof then Skype is installed w/in browser...

I even un-installed skype and installed again, but still no skype plugin..
this is not very user-friendly.. that button on top right of FF browser window should be a TOGGLE, it shouldn't disappear if you disable the skype extension (or plugin, or add-on, or whatever you want to call in..) am talking about the plug-in that transforms phone nos., that's all I'm interested in.. so how do I get it back.. thank you..

Maya89, don't use the "Remove Skype extension for Firefox" option from the dropdown menu next to the Skype button - that does exactly what it says.
Instead, go to Tools | Add-ons and disable/enable it there.
If you re-installed but it's not working, go into Tools | Add-ons and see if it's disabled.
Hope that helps. I'm a developer too and came as a big surprise when a client said "all my phone numbers are mucked up" on their site - they had the skype extension installed...

Great - something similar has happened to me.
No toolbar icon anymore, but I can still enable/disable from add-ons. And when enabled it still picks up numbers from a webpage and turns them into clickable skype links...
