I have a web application that I am trying to get the skype IE7 add in to work in.

I have reinstalled fresh OS, skype, browsers, etc. My results are that the formatting works for IE6 and all Firefox versions but NOT in IE7. How can I troubleshoot this?
Peter Kalmström
Hi Paul,
I am not sure I understand what the problem is - could you please elaborate or contact me directly via Skype and I will do what I can to help you sort this out.
Marcis
Is there any way to stop the numbers been changed on the web pages? I'm fed up = because every time I get lost the numbers when I copy withouth the HTML!!
Peter Kalmström
Hi Marcis,
Yes, of course you can turn this feature off.
The Skype add-on for Internet Explorer adds a small button to the IE toolbar. That button can be used to toggle the feature on/off or to permanently remove the add-on.
You can also view a demonstration of how the feature works here:

To elaborate, in IE7, when I click the skpe add in button the phone numbers on the page are not formatted with the Skype hyperlink to call the number, yet it works fine in all other browsers.

It looks like this in IE7

and like this in Firefox or other browsers

Even though on both browsers, I have the skype button depressed like this:

Hi Paul
Thanks for explaining! Which other browsers have you tried and had this feature show up in?
Also, could you please give me the full URL of that page. It does indeed look like a bug and we will do all we can to fix it in future versions of the Skype add-on for Internet Explorer

The "other browsers" I speak of is just really IE6. Unfortunately, I can not provide the url as it is for a web based application that is secured by login. Feel free to contact me if you would like assistance and/or demonstration of the problem.

Thanks

Hi Paul,
Answering here - for the benefit of others :-)
Could you save the html of the page to a file and send that to me? That way I can analyze the page and see what goes wrong.

I'm having a similiar problem. In Skype under options/advanced I have the check box for associating Skype with web pages ut the Skype Call icon does not show up on any web page. I use IE7 and Firefox and the symptons are the same. Should I unintall Skype and then reinstall? It did work at one point in time.

Hi Futurewebboss,
I don't think the problem you are describing is the same as the one discussed above. If phone numbers are not highlighted properly you might have to enable it. The button on the IE toolbar is intended to toggle on/off.
Sometimes the button gets hidden, though and you might have to go customize the IE toolbar to get it back again.

Just today we published a beta version of the IE add-on that "stays put" on the toolbar in a more persistent way. You can find it here:
https://developer.skype.com/SkypeToolbars

Please let me know if that doesn't help!

Peter,
Let me be clearer and maybe you can point me in the right direction.
What used to work, which does not any longer is the feature that allows me to make a phone call from a web page where there is a phone number displayed. What I used to see would be an Icon that said something to the effect of "Call Using Skype" and this is what is no longer working. I only see the phone numbers. I found this highly useful because from our own interanet we have our contacts and I used to be able to just click on their phone number with the skype icon and then make the call. It was great.
Am I in the wrong place? I did download the latest versions as you recommended but this didn't not restore the functionality. Is there a registry hack?

Hi,
Could you please go into the Tools-Manage add-ons menu in IE and check if you have the Skype add-in enabled there?

Is there no cure to this problem?
I was hoping to be able to restore this functionality. I am going to try to uninstall skype and reinstall to see if that makes a difference.
futurewebboss
Well, this dicussion appears to be dying but for the record after uninstalling skype nd reinstalling, I have lost the ie toolbar all together and the outlook add won't install witout a dll registration erro, so I just have plain old skype.
Peter Kalmström
Hi,
I apologize for not getting back to you earlier!
Could you please try the IE add-on BETA available at:
https://developer.skype.com/SkypeToolbars/

The Outlook installer registration issue is a known one and we are working on trying to fix that!

Tried that already. Won't install without error. Plus the IE toolbar is completely gone.
In Firefox I do have the funcionality that allows me to click to call number using Skype when a phone nuber is detcted on the page.

So, I guess this is the end of this thread? No more help? No solution?
Vlinder
To add to this thread rather late, I've experienced a similar, but different, problem.

The Skype add on is removing telephone numbers beginning with '00' or '+' (ie international numbers) from a page I've been developping (which dynamically retrieves information from a mySQL database).

When Skype add on is disabled this doesn't happen.

I've got around this by adding the string 'Tel:' to each phone number.

Anyone heard of that one before? Is there a better workaround/solution?
Chacahu

Hi Peter,
This is a good and dandy but I think it should be left off by default. I know so many people who love Skype but ALWAYS COMPLAIN about this feature. One of the main reasons s that you can’t read the complete number once your annoying program takes over. Also while I’m on my soap box. You should drop Talk and Write from your list of certified programs because once again I know about 3 people who tried to remove this junk code and it takes a manual removal from the registry to do it! ANYWAY don’t get me wrong I LOVE SKYPE! But why not be the BMW or the Mercedes of the VIOP world " Right?"

....Thanks,
Shawn
