I receive no video including my own picture but can take snapshots of the callers. Their video box shows up black as does mine while talking. Sound is good both ways and they see my video well.

If you are running Windows XP, make sure your DirectX is up to date. Don't depend on only the fact that is says "DirectX 9.0c", there have been lots of updates from Microsoft without a name change; the latest is dated August 2007. Just go to the Microsoft download page, download the latest DirectX update, and install it.

Also, make sure your video drivers are up to date.

If you are not running XP, or neither of these suggestions help, reply here again with a lot more detail about your computer, hardware, software, peripherals, versions and such.

I need a lot more information before I can offer much more useful help here.

First, did you check and update your DirectX and video card drivers?

Second, please provide the following information:

A) Skype version currently installed (Skype->Help->About)

B) What type of PC, Desktop or laptop.

C) Operating System, Version, Patch level (e.g. Windows, XP, Service Pack 1 or 2, etc)

D) CPU Type and Speed

E) Amount of Memory.

F) Type of Internet connection and speed (e.g. dial-up or broadband, 768 down/128 up, etc)

G) Router in use? If so, which model?

H) Firewalls in use? If so, which?

I) Headset in use?

J) Have you BOTH tried a test call to 'echo123' if so, what are the results?

K) Is it a PC2PC, Skypeout or Skypein problem?

L) Webcam in use? If so, what make, model and software/drivers?

Joe,

Go to the ATI web site (actually part of AMD now) to look for video driver updates. Double check your display adapter type, because I don't see Dell in the ATI Mobility Radeon X300 driver page - but that could be wrong. You really need to update the video drivers before trying anything else.

Oh, the "test with echo123" is a standard part of the information request. In your case, if you want to see if outgoing and incoming video work, try testing with "videoecho123".

Also, did you try Skype again after updating DirectX, and it video still didn't show?
