I just registered a skype account on 9/11/07 and tried to make the first call for free as ad
"Make your first call
You’re new to Skype so your first call is free – up to 10 minutes to any phone, anywhere in the world.
Use the Call Phones tab to pick the country and enter the phone number.
Click the green Call button to start your call" from Skype
But the call I made to Vietnam which didn't work. After that I tried to make a call to my cell phone (in U.S) and it worked fine.
So the ad from Skype is not TRUE.
Any ideas on that issue?
I want to get some explain from Skype staffs.
Thanks

I second that.
I signed up a new account and could not make any free test calls.

I had the same problem, today (23 July 2008). Aside from the test call to confirm voice quality, my first call was an attempt to phone Mexico (which is on the list) and it resulted in an error message "You need Skype Credit to call ordinary phones."
Now *perhaps* they wanted to tell me that the part of Mexico I was phoning is not covered by the free first call, but that was not the error message provided. So, Skype, please stop wasting my time!

I'm having a similar problem. I downloaded Skype several weeks ago, but hadn't used my free call yet. I'd planned to use it tonight, for a call to Italy, but when I tried, I was told I didn't have any Skype credit and would have to purchase some. There's no indication on the WEB site that the free call offer expires. There's no record in my account of a call having been made, even by accident. What happened?

Were you calling a landline or cellphone ( very expensive in Europe)
