I have no bugs to report but there are a few things missing.

- SMS (text messages)

I would really like to see the SMS function included in Skype for Devices. If I am sitting in a cafe or other public place, sending a text message would be a great option to have. It's quiet and there is no need to get out the headset. Also a great option for noisy environments where calls are hard to hear.

Should be very easy to add.

- Forwarding options

On vacation, I may not have access to a PC to sign in with. What if I want to change my call-forwarding number to a rental phone or similar. I understand the need for a tidy interface for the small screen but an "advanced options" button would keep things tidy until somebody needs more control.

- Contact photos

Hardly essential but it would be nice to see their faces instead of the default Skype-person.

- Video

Many have mentioned it but I would like the usability features first. It would be a great selling-point to support video on devices that have cameras. I imagine resolution and frame-rate would be minimal but sometimes even a blurry image helps you make your connection.

- Bluetooth headset support

This one is probably up to Nokia though an OS update but if they have any advanced documentation, have a look. This would be a killer addition for convenience and call clarity. N800 is a great device but the included headset is not perfect. Nokia's choice of a very rare connector means we cannot go to the store to choose alternatives. Bluetooth audio would solve this problem if only Nokia would support it.

- Integration

Is it possible to replace the Internet Tablet OS' "Internet Call" function with Skype? Removing clutter from the menus is always a good thing.

Thanks for bringing Skype to the N800. I really hope you can find the time to make it everything it could be.

I agree with all of the above.

Particularly the sms, skype-in and Video requests.

Would love to be able to hear my voicemail messages and delete them from the history list while on the N800... otherwise, have to do this from a PC! And, yes, video capablity...

Other than that... It's a WONDERFUL THING! wink.png

yes.png I agree skype on N800 is more than great and yes we need to see soon SMS better sound level in the headset and bluetooth capacity, I was so upset not being able to use a béuetooth headset with that great product:.,Being a big fan of Nokia for years I really do not understand why should a basic function likes that be ignored

Video!!! and bluetooth headset support would be nice too. I bought my n800 under the assumption that skype would support the built-in webcam--it seems absurd to me that it doesn't.

No bugs so far but why can't you edit or delete contacts on the Nokia n800? I had hoped the latest version which I have installed (version 1.7.43.38.2) would offer those obvious features which Skype failed to include. Editing or deleting on my laptop does nothing to those same contacts on the n800.

Finally, it would have been nice to get an answer back from Skype other than an irrelevant FAQ answer totally unrelated to my question as to why the tiny credit provided when I downloaded Skype to my n800 was in Euros instead of US dollars even though my laptop shows dollars and the last time I checked California was still part of the United States.
dowslaw
Wouldn't you know it. Yesterday I complain about editing contact problems and just like taking your car in for a problem. The problem suddenly has gone away.

Finally deleting contacts on laptop has worked and that also removed contacts from n800. But you still can not do this from the n800. Still can't edit contacts.

New issue I would like to address today. Why does my contact on my wife's skype, now that she has finally received my contact info after several days trying, now say "Using Skype without my computer. Find out more." (last part is a link) instead of the 'About Me' info which I want to display and was being displayed until she finally received my contact info? I am signed into my n800 and do not have a second laptop available right now to see what info is displayed when signed in on laptop instead of n800. But I feel like I am now an advert for Skype when signed in on my n800.

Second issue for today. Why do all my contacts have the correct time displayed for them but my wife sees the time in my contact as GMT +0 on her laptop and I see the time in her contact on the n800 as (minus) -1:.. (whatever the minutes are at the time) such as (minus) -1:42 (GMT) on my Skype. I have the clock set on the n800 to the correct time for California.

We both set up our Skype accounts on our laptops and my n800 in California and for -7 GMT

I let her log into Skype on my n800 today and it showed her tiny free credit in Euros although she has US Dollars on her laptop.

We have released the updated version of Skype for N800.

Hi Raul,
I have a N800 since... yesterday. I am pretty satisfied with this little tablet.
I thought that, as it has a camera included, it would had a video conference feature.
I have video on Skype (beta) in my Linux box and it works extremely good.
Couldn't it be adapted the Linux-Skype Beta to the Nokia N800. There is a Debian Linux Skype
working and the OS of the N800 is Debian based. I think it will be even easy because, you have to trim the Debian version for just *one* camera type (chipset, driver, etc) and just one kernel, wouldn't it?
Any way I'm a big fan of Skype, it do solved many problems in my life. I'll be very please if I can be of any help (test a beta, whatever).
thank you for the good work

no dropped calls with os2008 and n800. let's just get the basics ironed out.

I've run into a problem with my voicemail, I have OS2008 and the most recent version of Skype installed and when people call into my N800 it just rings indefinitely and never forwards my calls to my voicemail, when I have skype running on my laptop and my N800 it rings on the callers end even after I have rejected the call, when I have skype turned off on my N800 it sends my calls to voicemail. Is there something I'm missing or is there a bug in the system?
Honzik
The two things that I'd like to see would be:
1) complete support for bluetooth headsets, including perhaps even a means of setting audio levels, if necessary and
2) video, even if the frame-rate is slow. In fact, I'd prefer a slower frame-rate with good quality pictures than a faster one with distorted images.

i have a few suggestions for features and bug fixes for skype on the nokia internet tablets, some of which have already been mentioned here. I am running os 2008 with the latest version of skype on an n800.

1) skype does not send calls to voicemail when it is online, and it does not allow the user to set this feature, as with skype for pc. if i get a call from someone i dont want to talk to, i have to reject the call (basically the same as hanging up on them) and then set skype to offline so they get my voicemail if they call back.. this is a major problem since i use skype as my main phone. even my beta quality netgear sph101 had voicemail settings.

2) i cant´use the large thumb keyboard to chat. in the previous version of slype for os 2007 i could jab at the textbox with my finger and get the thumb keyboard to pop up, usually after a couple tries. the middle dpad button did not work. with os2008 it still does not work, and i cant´get it to pop up with my finger either. this is also a major problem.

3) skype seems to drop calls occasionally. im not sure what the cause of this is, since i am usually very close to a router. for me, it is not a major inconvenience to call the person back, but i can imagine that iw would be for some people.

4) i cant finger scroll through my long list of contacts, and the scroll bar is tiny.

4.5) it would be nice if i could send and recieve files through skype chat. video calls might be usefull, but for me this is a low priority.

as general suggestions for skype:

5) i would like skype much more if caller ID worked. I always know who is calling me, but my friends often dont answer my calls because my number does not show on their caller ID.

6) it would be nice if i could send and recieve sms messages.

I've found that because this feature is missing, it's highly annoying to have to tap in messages with the stylus. This is probably the only major issue I have personally with skype. The call quality could be slightly improved upon as well, it seems that when talking with someone the connection gets bumpy on the n800 vs my desktop on the same network which sounds better without hiccups in comparison.

I'd like to echo this comment as something I'd consider a priority, because it can lead to missing calls and messages when you are on a call, or online and away.

One of my tests of whether Skype is working is to use SkypeOut to call my own SkypeIn number. Typically on computer Skype clients I get a dialog informing me of the incoming call (even though I'm already on a call), and not answering means it goes to voicemail. The N800 client doesn't inform you of the incoming call (until you hang up your current call, apparently), and the caller just gets continuous rings instead of voicemail.

My own related wishlist, in priority order, for the N800 would be:
1) Send to voicemail when not answering a call, or when already on a call.
2) Notify of incoming calls when already on a call
3) Allow changing voicemail settings and greeting
4) Allow hold of current call to answer incoming call (or is this beyond what the N800's processor can handle?)
5) Conference calling (though I bet this is definitely beyond what the N800's processor can handle. smile.png )

A bug related to the appearance of the Skype application on the Nokia ITs / Maemo:

In most parts of the Skpe main window the background colour is hardcoded to white.

This is ok as long as the default hildon theme is used or any theme with black font colour. But when using a theme with a brighter font colour the text is in the Skype window is hard to read or not readable at all.

Proper behaviour would be, that Skype uses the text, background... colours defined by the current hildon theme and not hardcoded colours.
It doesn't make much sense to have a themable UI like hildon when applications are ignoring this and using hardcoded colours.

i've just installed os2008 on my n800, it seems that the rocker key is not working only in skype

Rocker controls are working all fine for me: I can use up down to scroll through my contacts and left right to change to dial tab and history. Make sure that your Skype application go focus.

i'd like to see the following from top to bottom;

- videocalls (duh)
- taskbar integration. i'd like to be able to close the skype window and still be online
- be able to call skype contacts who aren't in my contactslist
- sms would be nice, yeah
JAM97219
I'd like to see the following:

- Be able to setup and use voice mail
- Video chat (not necessary but nice)
- Set ring tones

Get those solved and it would be a much better tool!

OS2008/OS2007 client stops and drops the call. I can't say after how long, but it usually happens. I have that on both my N800 and N810 tablets. Client version [10014/1.7.43.38.2] and [10017/1.7.62.51.1].
Unfortunately we seem to be too small fraction of Skype users, to get Skype's attention.

Hi all,

For me, I have a few complaints with Skype on my nokia N810.

1. Call Quality
I also have gizmo and it seems like it either uses less bandwidth or is somehow more clear and more consistent. Skype tends to breakup very frequently for me. I realize this may due to wireless interference; however, if Gizmo works fine (excellent), so should Skype. Does anyone else have this issue, it's really frustrating cause my calls are extremely choppy when using Skype.

2. Call logs
I also use Skype on my laptop and any calls I receive there do not show up in my n810's logs. Additionally, I receive calls from another timezone (3 hours behind me) and it seems that the times in the logs are really screwed up as much as 8 hours difference. It seems that if the calls are made before midnight relative to my time, they are correct, but then if they are after midnight, then they show up as like 8:00 am. What the heck is going on here?

3. SMS
I cannot send text messages or receive them.

That about does it for me, the main one is the call quality. I don't understand how Gizmo is perfect and how Skype lacks there. Could it be memory usage? I can post that information later as I know the nokia lacks some memory there.

I will add that as of today I can confirm that Skype on the NIT's STILL fails to forward calls to voice mail. And there is still no audio notification of an incoming call....Period end of story. Why?

I could care a flying flip about video calling. Voicemail is something we PAY EXTRA FOR or is included with Skype Pro & SkypeIn. So as far as I can see Skype/eBay is not providing the functionality we are paying for. Nor do they indicate that voicemail fails to function for people running Skype on the NIT's.

For me this is a MUST have feature. After that full caller ID for Skype in general. Waaaaaaay and I mean WAAAAAAY down the list is video. I imagine the number of people using video calls of any sort, while on the rise, is low. Far lower then people who depend on voicemail.

Has anyone raised a support ticket about this issue? Not that Skype will bother to even acknowledge the ticket exists.

And we are not a small number of users, or even if we are...Skype is a major selling point on the NIT boxes. It implies a FULLY FUNCTIONAL package.

Anyway, we really need:

First, VOICEMAIL functionality
Second, audio notification of INCOMING calls.

One wonders if this stuff is left out intentionally due to agreements Nokia has with cellular providers for their vast array of cell phones? They can only agree to a crippled version of Skype so as not to displace cell phone use. This sort of stuff that truly nauseous.

It's a bug and they've known about it for a long time. Come on Skype--tell us what you're going to do about this. I'm about ready to give up and go to Gizmo.
Skype is screwing us
Hay allz,

I say that we just keep posting all the same retarded requests and repeating each-other; so that in less than 10 years, Skype will actually do something productive for this product.

Seriously, why the @#$$@ weren't these features originally included in the Nokia Skype???!!!

Skype actually has the nerve to dumb-down their options/service from their crappy Windows Mobile application???!! Users of that app. have been asking for all these same options for years (ringtones, pictures, custom voicemail reply, bluetooth support, etc)

At least the Windows Mobile Skype app. has some voicemail options (no custom prompting though)

I don't know why Skype's Nokia developers can't @$#%in' get it through their heads that all the Mobile Skype apps need to be standalone. The Nokia 810 is designed to be a desktop-free wifi animal. Why the hell should it's Skype app have to rely on a connected Laptop/Desktop Skype connection???! (voicemail/sms/video)

Nokia Internet Tablet users shouldn't be forced to keep their TWO fully functional computers connected via Skype, all the !@#%'n time!! --Just so we can get the voicemail we already pay for? The whole point of the mobile devices is to be able to travel and break away from big-as machine you left @ home.

Besides, even if you do have the patience to keep your computer connected 24/7, the voicemail still has hella glitches, etc.

So,
Let's all repeat each-other's requests for the obvious, and maybe, just maybe, some intelligent drone @ Skype will stumble into this forum and figure it out!

-Voicemail options
-Ringtone options
-Non-microscopic buttons
-Picture options
-Bluetooth support
-Practical scrolling/search
Skype is screwing us
wow,

this is awesome; I was just cruising by the butt crack Skype forums to see if anything was new. AND: wow; pathetic.

This is one of the biggest threads for the Nokia N800/N810 section, and out of all the repeated requests for bug fixes and solutions.... there has been a total of 2 (TWO) replies from official Skype employees--in almost a year. The only fix that has been provided in an entire year of people complaining/"wishing", is the stupid Call Forwarding option that only one person requested.

I'm guessing that it doesn't even work properly.

It's been almost a year and Skype hasn't done a thing.

If you're considering Skype for your mobile device... BEWARE. All of the Mobile Skype software I've used is full of bugs and is desperately in need of updates that never come. Skype doesn't even reply to these widespread complaints in their OWN forums. I bet it won't be long before this negative post is magically removed by one of their evil minions.
SKYPE SUCKS

i agree with everything this poster has said and think his anger is justified. all of these voicemail and dropping problems are impacting my life daily. i can not afford a cel and this seemed my only option. i bought a years worth and now i just wish i had that money back so it can help toward getting a cel even though it'll probably increase my debt. guess it was all too good to be true.

SMS functionality, please.

Hey,
I'm having some issue with skype running on my N800.
When Skype is running and a call is initiated then cancelled (unanswered) or the call is answered, the
screen will never dim or blank even when Skype is minimized.

The screen *NEVER* dims and remains permanently active, even when Skype is
minimized or set off.

This is eating my battery out.

Some one has any clue about what I can do to resolve the issue?

Thanks much
