Hi,

It seems the the skype icon has not real transparency. I takes the average color of the current background when it is started. This is even worse when you have multiple desktop with different backgrounds.

Here is a screenshot that well illustrates the problem (KDE 3.5.7) :

Thanks for your help.

I had that issue too on kubuntu feisty, but some weeks ago, there was a qt4 libs update, and then this problem be resolved, so i think that is a qt4 issue.

Qt4 version is 4.2.1 here on Debian Etch.

I am running Qt 4.2.3 on Mandriva spring 2007, and transparency works fine. I noticed, however, that if Skype is started before you change the panel from opaque to transparent, the border will show (Azureus has that issue also). It goes away once you restart the application.

I use Qt 4.2.x on Madriva 2007 Spring and transparency does NOT work fine. I have 6 desktops. The background on each is different. Start up Skype and it takes the background of the desktop you start on for its "transparency". When you switch to a different desktop it has "artifacts" in the image ... not present on any other applet system tray icon. Ok others are using Qt 3.x (that comes with Mandriva 2007 Spring). Doesn't define where the issue is ... maybe Skype or maybe Qt 4.x.

Skype doesn't have anything to do with system tray rendering itself. This is entirely done in Qt.

Andrew.

Oh yeah, what a show stopper! What is it about the eye candy?! I couldn't care less!

Lucky you, that there are no other problems to moan about.

I want functionality!

If you don't care about the problem, don't post in this thread !
There are enough stupid posts on the board.

As Andypoo already wrote, there is no problem.

Anyway, what functionality is lost exactly, when the tray icon is _not_ transparent?

And btw. who do you think you are to judge my post and moderate this thread?!

Looking at your thread starter, I cannot see very much helpful information about your so called "problem". Now guess what I would call a stupid post.

So the bug is closed for Skype as it seems Qt related. But as you can see on the screenshots there is a problem.

No functionality loss. It is an aesthetic bug.

I'm really sorry for the word "stupid" and if I offended you. All I can see is that you haven't provided any useful information in this thread. I should have said "useless" instead.

Yea. And you where told, that it's a qt issue that is fixed in 4.3.1.

Why do you think skype should fix something, which isn't in their lib?

Update to 4.3.1 and see this issue fixed (and others opened).
