When I am doing certain things on my computer that requires a lot of cpu power I shut down everything I can. When I shut down Skype 3.5, the icon disappeared from the taskbar but the Task Manager still showed very high cpu usuage. When it checked it was Skype and SkypePM still running and working hard! I shut it down in the Task Manager.

Maybe it is just part of the Beta but when I tell a program to shut down I think it should do more than just remove the icon form the taskbar.

When the PC is overloaded it could take couple of seconds to completely end/stop a program/process. Maybe you didn't wait enough because everything is OK on my side. 'Icon+process=disappear'

Funny thing when Skype is idling the Task Manager shows 0% cpu usage for it but when you shut it down the cpu usage for Skype goes to 75-97% and looks like it is working hard doing whatever - maybe its reporting to the mothership. wondering.png

I waited a very long time of the this activaty to stop and it does not. If this is not happening to you then maybe our operating systems are different? I have Vista Home Premium 32bit.

Indeed our operating systems are different - mine is XP SP2 Professional. Vista is still not officially supported and this might be another of those Vista-Skype related issues. Lets wait for a comment from Skype Staff.

Get rid of the Skype "Extras" manager to solve this problem.

PLEASE NOTE, you will need to know your Skype login name and password to do this, as it will be erased from your computer by this procedure. Also, although your contacts shouldn't be affected by this, to be competely safe you should back them up to a file via Skye / Tools / Advanced / Back Up Contacts to File.

Remove Skype completely via Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs. When it asks if you want to delete you chat history (or anything else) say yes.

Install Skype again, this time when the first window comes up click on "Options" in the lower left corner. Then un-check everything in that window - what you are especially interested in is not loading the Extras Manager or any of the Browser plug-ins.
