I've got a .deb package of Skype 1.3.0.53, if you want I can upload or email it to you. Just send me a Private Message or something and I'll get it to you.

An update: because many people ask me to send them older version of Skype for Linux, it has become very inconvenient to send it through email, so I've uploaded it on RapidShare, but for legal reasons I cannot post the link here, so everyone who needs older version of Skype (I've got a 1.3 version, .deb package), just PM me and I'll send the link to you.
That's best for everyone.

Skype does not recommend download the Skype software from any other place than the official download page at
http://www.skype.comSkype cannot guarantee the integrity of these files and that they are free of malicious code.
If you have problems with Skype please report them here and thus help get them fixed soon. The developers and other Skypers are following this forum.

the new version dose not work I understand why "Skype does not recommend download the Skype software from any other place than the official download page"
SO WERE DO WE GET AN OLD VERSION I'm giving this one more go since so many ppl want old versions fix the problem in the this version aka do not depend on libs that do not evin exist on Debian testing yet

It has been said before, but seemingly not in this thread, so..
We can't distribute versions older than 1.4 any longer for legal reasons.

I'm running Skype on Debian Testing and there are no issues at all with any missing dependencies for me. Which libraries are you missing?

I have the same problem: the new versions simply do not work, both 1.4 and 2.0 crash with
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'Skype::Exceptions::GetObjectError'
what(): CallMemberon start, everytime. The last working version was 1.4 beta, which I was careless enough to "upgrade". How do I get it back?

It would help more, if you would post your current config (qt version, which skype you have installed, which distribution).
Additional, mkdir ~/.Skype/Logs and start Skype. After the crash, upload the log-files here, so Andy or Berkus can look, what's wrong.

I am curious regarding what exactly are those ubiquitous "legal reasons" due to which you (skype reps) cannot post to your own website's developer section an older version than 1.4 of skype for linux, when the whole purpose of the developer section is testing of how the old versions work in different current environments. Does this not undo the whole purpose of the developer section.... to pretend to have it but not include major old releases?
I had previously downloaded the 1.3 version for linux off your own website, when it was still the current version. Are you implying it is illegal for those that legally downloaded it previously to continue to use it and share it with other users and developers? and how is the 1.3 linux version not legal if all the old windows versions are ok?
And I am very curious as to what is the legal philosophy by which a company can no longer post its very own product that it distributed to a community of DEVELOPER users who help market its products for free and in fact have a real and logical need for those old versions for testing...
you can see how this is a pertinent issue when many Linux users agree that 1.3 is the last relatively stable version of skype and there are many users today still running that distro.
I ask these questions because I suspect that there really isnt a legal issue for not posting the older version- it has all the looks of a silly excuse, and easy cop out- and Skype refuses to due so simply due to lack of good will since people responsible for moderating this forum (take no offense friends) have little influence on the decision makers who post the files and are busy with other things.
Ill be happy to be proven wrong my friends and to see 1.3 show up for download. People can already get it on BitTorrent- so why expose your loyal developers to have to go to Torrent communities- you can help everyone out by posting the real, unchanged, secure older version, and help out the average user too as many people prefer skype without the video and without all the new bells and whistles of 1.4.

Skype 1.3 and older contained a codec that was licensed from another company. Skype no longer licence that codec, so they are not allowed to distribute any Skype versions that contain it. You probably find (I haven't checked) that you can't download any old Windows or Mac releases that contain it either.

Problem Solved since I have Upgraded to Kubuntu and Ubuntu 8.04 ++
and Skype linux 2.0 Debian Version.

First take a moment to execute "skype &" from a terminal so you can report error messages with simple OS specifics. There's every chance that a bit of persistance might solve this quickly or in the next beta release if you give the devs useful feedback in the 2.1 threads.
If you're using pulseaudio (what version?), (install/upgrade and) run "pavucontrol &" or "paman &" so you can judge whether it's falling over because pulseaudio is crashing.
To downgrade, note the fedora rpm is
http://download.skype.com/linux/skype-2.0.0.72-fc5.i586.rpmand try searching/guessing the SUSE name.
Else use rpm -ql and rpm -ivh --force --test to assess the danger of dependency hell. (after uninstalling 2.1 of course)
Best wishes

Also note that the Skype RPMs are signed with Skype's GPG key, so they can be verified even though Skype itself is of no help in doing so (or even posting its GPG key on its own website).

Thanks Remy, you just saved me!
I foolishly installed the 2.1 version on Ubuntu 9.04 without thinking and deleted my old .deb before I tested. Doh! Lesson learned!!
Of course, upon starting up 2.1 I saw that they changed the Audio Devices options, and only Pulse audio was detected for in/out/ring - this does me no favours as it wasn't seeing my Plantronics USB headset via ALSA. 2.0 saw it but in 2.1 clicking the poplist has no other options but Pulse!?! Gnome saw it just via and it was still working.
Thanks for the 2.0 package, I can now use my skype out calls again.
I appreciate it

Skype people, note to self, perhaps keep the current and one or two most recent prior versions if possible...
edit: Skype - make it more obvious there are older versions we can download on your site, not just the latest. Remy's link above proves that but I didn't know it was available ...

Well, it's ok if no versions older than 1.4 can be got from skype, but, from where can the older available versions be downloaded?
In the download page I only can see the new brand version, but no option at all for getting older ones.
The url
http://download.skype.com/ from wich .deb versions seem to be available doesn't work any more.
So, finally, where are the official linux old versions of skype are available?
Thanks

The server won't show you that directory (a security precaution), but you can grab the packages if you get the name right.

The older versions of Skype used to work great under Centos 5, but the newer versions do not (I was installing the Fedora RPM). I too was hoping to find and install an older version of Skype for Linux, then I found out that Skype provides statically linked executables and figured I'd give them a try:
http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-linux-staticThanks Skype Linux team for making statically linked executables available for those of us that don't want to go through the trouble to upgrade our nice stable enterprise linux installations! 2.1Beta runs flawlessly under Centos 5.3 using these executables.
