I am building a website and have contact phone numbers on the site in HTML when you view the site when you have skype installed the phone number displays with a flag and skype logo either side the font is made bold and therefore increases in size and is shown in a grey box.

I know this can be removed in your internet settings but I don't want it displayed in the first place as anyone that sees my site will view it like this which I don;t want!

Does anyone know how I can prevent this its really bloody annoying! devil.png

Currently, there is no way to disable the ability to format phone numbers when they view your web pages using the Skype Toolbar, I think I have told you how to disable it or turn it off, when you are viewing your web site.

How to uninstall the Toolbar for you:

Also, this does not belong in the SkypeME! forum area. I am moving it.

Hello (am still not asleep ... lol) ~

Actually, the logo feature can be easily removed by disabling the Skype add-ons (and easily enabled again, if required).

If you require further information on how to do so, please advise.

Cheers!

The request is NOT for him, the request is that none of his web site visitors see the formatted phone numbers, as I stated, there currently is no method to disable people visiting that web site Skype Tool bar.

Thanks however I know how to disable it. but I don't want people who see my site to see this feature ie flag and stupid skype logos it also make my fonts bold and puts a grey box around it if I wanted a grey box around py phone number it I'd design like that in the first place. I simply want people to see my sebwite without that feature and I can't tell everyone who views my site to disable it as I don't know who is looking at it!

what right have skype got to do this!!!!!

Hello ~

My understanding is that when stephenm inputs phone numbers into an HTML code, the subsequent web page "inherits" the Skype add-on interface ... something that the poster does not want.

Because I have personally experienced this same annoying experience in my HTML coding ... I understand why this is happening ... and how to correct it.

If misunderstanding the poster's dilema, " stephenm" and Don, my apologies.

If my perception is correct, it is my pleasure to assist you, stephenm.

Cheers!

Hi again ~

I understand wink.png

By you disabling the Skype add-ons (nothing to do with the Tool Bar), it will no longer be visible when you are viewing your related web pages, nor will anyone else be subjected to the same annoyance (save the remote few who are still using Skype versions 3.2.0.158 or .163, with their Skype add-ons enabled).

The cause of this Skype interface is exclusively from the enabled Skype add-ons in versions 3.2.0.158 and 3.2.0.163.

You can always try the disable feature (no uninstall / reinstall required) and if you do not like it, then re-enable it again ...

EDIT: I was busy writing this post when Don's post was made ... guess that's why when I completed the text and tried to save this initial post ... it got wiped out ... hence requiring a re-write ... regrets about the cross-over

Hello again!

I don;t want to disable anything, I want this to work without disabling or enabling!

ie I want people to view my phone numbers who have skype installed the way I designed it to be read (ie without the annoying skype logos) the problem is I know how to disbale it so I don;t see them but the people who view my site might not and currently becasue of this annoying skype thing they down even see my full number.

this is some I would think I would have to do to my HTML code to prevent the skype add ons from recognising my phone number as a phone number and adding the logos! it my customers or people looking at my site that I don;t want seeing my site with the skype logos on! I have no control over how whats disabled or not on there web browsers! so I have to change my html!

Pwersonally I think I pretty peed off to say the least that skype can actually do this its ruined my site and makes it harder to view my number!

I haven't used it recently, but it should stop the client-side toolbar from parsing numbers on the page.

Hi Stephen ~

Yep! I hear you!! ... Unfortunately, this annoying freature also gets picked up when you place phone numbers into HTML format e-mails, etc. as well ...

The great news is that is a temporary glitch ... hence I believe it has been rectified in subsequent Skype version releases (or so, I am told). This will minimize the amount of people who are subjected to this, hence extremely low numbers incorporating this HTML interface into viewing your web-site.

I note that Spud has posted a recomendation ... although I have not explored his post in any detail. He traditionally is a "software thinker", and tends to take a less intrusive approach than many others may undertake wink.png.

Either way, I remain interested in your resolution ... particularly having such a passion for customizing and / or refining software glitches.

Will be unavailable until approximately 12:30 PDT today, and look forward to keeping in touch. Hopefully, you will attain a successful resolution ~ soon.

Cheers!

Hi everyone,
This is a difficult question and there is no clear-cut answer, imho.
We like to think we provide a service to users by making it very easy for users to call phone numbers found on web-pages but of course to do that we have to modify the way the numbers look on the page.

We have had this feature available for almost 2 years now and it has proven itself to be increasingly popular. We make the web browser understand about phone numbers, something that I am very proud of so now we have decided to make it simpler for users to discover it by enabling it by default.

There are 3 resolutions to this problem that I can think of:
  1. Everyone uses the same browser, operating system and no extra toolbar addins are allowed. The UN dictates that a new browser should be released once every 5 years tongueout.png
  2. We skype.png remove this feature - that would solve this particular problem for our portion of the web users out there
  3. You add the meta-tag for your page - that will solve it for all users with this particular add-ons on your site

There are many that feel that changing the browser is "out of bounds" but we are a disruptive organization and I feel this is in line with what we do. We make telephony over the web "just work" and we make phone numbers on the web "just work".

This is exactly the kind of post that can turn into a never-ending flame war but the bottom line is that I
  • Apologize for any trouble caused
  • Offer a solution (the meta tag mentioned above and in many other posts)

That is about all I can do but feel free to continue the discussion wasntme.png

Hello Peter ~

Disabling the Skype Add-ons (related to version 3.2.0.158) also removes this annoying feature. My previous Skype version did not incorporate this graphic interface, hence no need to disable or modify any features.

Cheers!

This issue is very annoying & somewhat arrogant of Skype to impose it on millions of users without a simple option to delete.

I believe this works;

1 Open Windows Explorer
2 Open My Computer
3 Open © drive
4 Open Program Files
5 Open Skype
6 Open Toolbars
7 Open Shared
8 Delete - SPhoneParser.dll

This solution works fine for me (I use v3.5.0.214)!

Maybe Skype can put this in a FAQ?

Thank you

Luckily this solutin worked like a charm - no disabling of add ons needed. This should be the default way to correct this problem until Skype offers a proper disabling of this bothersome feature within the tool itself.
Peter Kalmström
Hi,
I am very sorry you feel that it is bothersome! My apologies for the trouble caused.
Just want to point out that we do in fact provide a way to un-install the Skype add-on for Internet Explorer (and the Skype extension for Firefox) from within the tool itself.
The tool consists of two parts:
  1. The buttons that get inserted into the web page to make phone numbers clickable
  2. The button on the web browswer toolbar itself that can toggle the toolbar on/off - this button also has a small dropdown with only three actions. One of those actions is to un-install the toolbar.

If un-install that recommended way - the Skype installer will also know that you have previously un-installed the add-on and thus not install it by default again next time you upgrade Skype. Removing the SphoneParser.dll probably works also, though - but it is not the recommended way.

Peter,

I want the number highlighting turned on and working and clicked on the tool bar. When I call up a web page with telephone numbers they are highlighted in gray with the Skype logo but when I click on the number nothing happens other than I see the logo "blink". I take that as an indication that the mouse has sent the signal. I contacted customer support and was told to load the latest software, etc., which I did but there was no change. I am still waiting for additional suggestions from them. Have you got any ideas how to get it working. It used to work very well but I have loaded some new software (camcorder software and printer software) which may have caused some conflicts. Any help will be appreciated.

Howard
Peter Kalmström
Hi Howard,
Please contact me directly via Skype (I am quite easy to find) so that we can resolve this.
I presently do not have any idea what can be wrong when the click fails.
