Hello!
I am using Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper). The day before yesterday, I god info that Skype can be upgraded, but when I tried, I got message about unresolvable dependencies. Then, I did something stupid, and removed my old and perfectly functional Skype, to try clean install. Now, there is no success. I have tried via Automatix, Synaptic, with the repository:

, but nothing. Constantly, I receive following error-message:
CODE

skype:
Depends: libasound2 (>1.0.12) but 1.0.10-2ubuntu4 is to be installed
Depends: libc6 (>=2.3.6-6) but 2.3.6-0ubuntu20.4 is to be installed
Depends: libgcc1 (>=1:4.1.1-12) but 1:4.0.3-1ubuntu5 is to be installed
Depends: libqt4-core but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libqt4-gui but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libstdc++6 (>=4.1.1-12) but 4.0.3-1ubuntu5 is to be installed

Can anyone help me? What should I do to get Skype back?

Best,
PM

The latest Ubuntu .deb of Skype 1.4 beta only works with 7.10 Feisty Fawn. So you'd have to install your old version again. However I don't see any Download links to older Linux versions here. They really should be there, because Ubuntu 6.10 is a long-term release and still widely used.

My useless post on another topic will probably help here!

Remove the Skype repo from your sources.list (or through System > Admin > Software Sources) and then try again. All the methods are hitting that Skype repo and therefore getting the 1.4 version. Good bet would be to add the medibuntu repos and install from there

Just grab a static tarball, it shall run on Dapper. The step-by-step instructions for installing from tarball are elsewhere on this forum.
