Hello,
I've installed deb for 1.4 on Ubuntu Feisty 7.04 x86-64, overwriting old and working 1.3 version. But 1.4 doesn't start because of missing dependencies and I don't know where to get them. As I don't have old deb lying around, I cannot use Skype at all. sadsmile.png

And there's no way to download 1.3 from the skype.com site. All links lead to the new 1.4 version.

What a stupid policy!!! Why can't I download an old version???

Please, give me link to the old version or share it.

If you uninstall it through Synaptic or apt-get (remove) 1.4 will be gone. And assuming that you don't have Skype's apt repository in your sources file, you should be able to do an install and it will use the Fiesty repo that contains 1.3.

If you need more instructions, just ask.

We cannot distribute version 1.3 for legal reasons. Sorry.

Search elsewhere on this forum for cappy-chan's guide to install and run skype 1.4 on x86-64 distros.

I know your hands are tied, so I will ask this: Who can I go to at this point to ask why such a policy was implemented in the first place? I don't want 1.4 Beta. I want 1.3, and I'm running Debian Etch. I do not appreciate betas being forced down my throat.

I too am having 1.4 errors. It hangs on my Fedora 7 linux whenever i try to send an offiline message It hangs my entire desktop and kills my keyboard . Actually I do not even need to send an off line message, just opening their windows to chat kills my desktop.

I should have not upgraded. Anyone with a 1.3 version, please post the link here. To the skype people, if you can not redistribute 1.3, how about a more previous version?

hi thenixedreport and mediodormido,

After days of struggling not having skype, a few moments ago, someone has pointed me to this.. http://linux.softpedia.com/progDownload/Sk...ownload-68.html . It has the old version and I can now chat my old contacts with it. I know how hard it is having no way to tell your buddies about the problem and how frustrating it feels to have a fully working program die on you because of a recommend update and have no way to go back (one of the reasons i stoped using windows about a decade ago.)

Here is the link again...

Also, afte downlaoding, i suggest to keep the installers just incase 1.5 is just as crappy as 1.3,

You know, I really have to say that this is a very troubling post. Legal reasons. Hmmmmmmm.

I've been a long-time SkypeOut user, but I tell ya that this really gives me pause for thought. wondering.png dull.png

GIPS has forced us to stop distributing all and any code that contains GIPS libraries.
Here are your down to mud legal reasons in all their glory.

And since 1.3 is full of GIPS we can not distribute it (for legal reasons!) as well as 1.2 etc...
1.4 however is fully GIPS-free (you may have noticed that by audio quality as well as lack of dreaded "Playback error"s for the most part).

2 madhatter: I understand that you have no intent whatsoever to help Skype to improve 1.4, but could you just as an act of free good will on your side provide the logs for you hanging issue? Please?

hold patience, the 1.4 version is improving much faster than any other did in the past. We never saw a release every 2 weeks like these days. Think to me... on my hardware skype didn't work for 2 years!!! now it works.

Jeeze, I thought I was supposed to get e-mail notifications for threads. Hmmmm.

Thanks for the update, berkus. I'll just be quietly pissy about GIPS from here on and be grateful that I still have 1.3.0.53_API tucked away. I'm not much of a beta tester these days. smile.png

Cheers.

No need to consider 1.4 a beta anymore IMHO. It's already surpassed the former 1.3 gold in stability and functionality. I hope we'll see 1.4 being re-labelled to "gold" soon therefore.

Just google for "indexof" pages and you will find old rpm about skype.
