Now when I start up Skype, I get a second tray icon about remote something or other, but it is just a bunch of ??? I have found no option to make this annoyance go away, so I kill the process in the task manager and Skype seems to return to normal.

When I start a text converstation now there is this linkage at the top of the box that ask me to show messages from This conversation, this day, this week, etc... when I like 999 out of 1000 do NOT want ANY history EVER kept.

I do all I can to keep my conversations private and Skype history is suppose to be turned off, but still it records it during the immediate conversation and keeps it at least until I sign out of skype... This is a VERY large security risk for corporations and businesses!

The only reason Skype is even popular is not its cheap rates, as there are cheaper, not because it does voice, text, etc, as there are better out there... it is because of its encrypted communications! Now why would anyone desire encrypted services to only keep records on their pc????

Skype needs to correct these latest oversites and start offering true options to turn on or off any part of skype that a customer desires, and most of all insure the overall ease of using it, without adding more and more and more and more 'informative' boxes that waste screen space.... Skype has a help feature already.

You can turn off history saving by going to: Skype main window->Tools->Options->Chat & SMS->Chat settings->Keep chat history for: no history (select from drop down menu).
This should turn off history saving on your computer. I always have my history enabled and I can't say for sure but I think that when you disable the history Skype doesn't save the conversation but only displays the chat session in the history tab (in other words you see the chat as an event in the history tab but the actual conversation is not saved.)
If you would like to delete all chat history after finishing your chat you can go to: Skype main window->Tools->Options->Chat &SMS->Chat settings->Clear chat history.
When you click that button and confirm your decision Skype will delete all your chat history - everything you typed and received on the chat will be deleted.
I hope that helps

I don't have any problems with 3.5 Beta, as the file simply will not open! Each time I try to open the downloaded file, I get a message (from Firefox) saying that Skype has a problem and needs to close. This has happened some five times. Pity about the 22MB download, though. crying.png

If you have the Skype Toolbar or add-on installed try disabling it or uninstalling it. See if this helps. If not then try to open the installation file from the place you saved it not from Firefox.

Thank you, Kalin. I've tried opening it from where I saved it, but still with the same result. I'll delete it now and download it a second time. If that doesn't work, I'll stick with 3.2.0.175 till all the bugs have been eliminated. Fortunately, I have a 5GB/month downloading allowance, otherwise I'd be into overtime.

Cheers and thanks again,

I tried quitting, which of course is necessary when installing a later version, but that didn't work either! I've jsut deleted the file and am just about to open (hah!) the new download. Wish me luck!!
