Full Version: Skype on SuSE: Failed dependencies

Hi Gents,

I run the latest SuSE with all patches, nevertheless I'm not able to install the 1.4 beta due to failed dependencies:
CODE
z60m:/home/axel/Desktop # rpm -Uhv skype-1.4.0.74.rpm
warning: skype-1.4.0.74.rpm: Header V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID d66b746e
error: Failed dependencies:
        libsigc-2.0.so.0 is needed by skype-1.4.0.74-fc5.i586
        qt4-x11 >= 4.2 is needed by skype-1.4.0.74-fc5.i586
z60m:/home/axel/Desktop #

Why is it build against qt4? qt3 is still the standard in all SuSE-Versions so far.....
Maybe you can use the SuSE buildservice (build.opensuse.org) next time to provide your packages.....

Thanks

Skype 1.4 uses Qt4 not Qt3.

but the qt4 package name is different in opensuse 10.2

Yes, we're aware of this issue and will bring out a suse rpm very soon.
The download link for suse on our page was wrong at first, and has been changed to a 'static' version.
Quentin
I can't believe it... dull.png
Why the hell did you remove the RPM and replace it with the static-built tarball?? openSUSE is an RPM-base distro, so if someone wants a static-built tarball, it can be downloaded on the download page ("static, dynamic") and it does not mean that it is SUSE specific.

The RPM you were providing this morning WORKS, and it works very good as far as I have tested. The only thing you messed up is that qt4-x11 package you added in "Requires: " (if you need help on building packages you can contact me). That package doesn't even exist on SUSE, it is a Fedora dependency and tells us that your rpms are NOT built on SUSE (and even not consistent). FYI, the package is called libqt4(-x11) but, PLEASE, don't put dependencies you are not sure about. Don't set any dependency in "Requires:" and SUSE's packagemanagers will resolve _automatically_ the dependencies.

Last but not least: This skype version is in Qt4, nice for the future, but really USELESS since it does not bring new features and even miss older ones. Why should we use it?? And finally, where the hell is WEBCAM support??? Skype Linux is _really_ disappointing and after so much years finally BIG SHIT!!!!

regards,
Quentin

PS: I strongly recommend SUSE users to move to more powerful alternatives: openWengo, for example. You will find nice and up-to-date packages on Packman!

Oh, sorry. I clicked the reply button when I started to read your post, but then I read it in full.

Thanks for the clarification, will you announce the new SuSE package?
telmerk
Hi all, I like Skype and don't really wanna move. I have he same problem as the topic stater.

Would you please provide s a working rpm for SuSE 10.2?? surprised.png

Hi all,

I had to install libsigc++12 and libsigc++2 packages with Yast (using SuSE 10.2).

Now skype can be launched.
But my mic doesn't work... sadsmile.png

Cheers,
T.

Have you tried adjust mic capture settings in your mixer applet?

Are only those two packages the ones required?

If so, is it going to be easy to remove the static package when the .rpm package comes out? And, is it possible to get the older Skype version somehow?

EDIT: For those interested, you can find Skype for SUSE 1.3.0.53 at

http://download.skype.com/linux/skype-1.3.0.53-suse.i586.rpm

All the links to version 1.3 downloads automatically take you to the latest version BUT I have
skype-1.3.0.53-suse.i586.rpm which I've just reinstalled on my SUSE 9.3 pc because I can's get ver 1.4 to work!

It's about 9.5M. If anybody want's it, I could email it or send it via skype!!

In the fact skype for linux 1.4 is:
not working simple on opensuse 32 bit
NOT working at all on opensuse 64 bit

You have removed the link to the previous version (that on 64 bit was working as chat program with my friends, because the mic was NOT working, with capture at the max level and perfect recording from other application)

What I must think of the skype linux team?
In my company those result bring to a multiple fired, in your NOT.

Can i work as skype for linux developer?
If I do nothing or simply a mess it is NOT a problem as I can see... :-)

Best regard.

Hi guys, we've updated the OpenSUSE package, it should work for you now. Please give it a go!

ok guys, I'm really trying to get skype working on my Suse 10 machine. Skype is the only thing that ties me to the evil world of MS.

So, after a bunch of tries this is what I get:

rpm -Uvh skype-1.4.0.94-suse.i586.rpm
warning: skype-1.4.0.94-suse.i586.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID d66b746e
error: Failed dependencies:
libQtDBus.so.4 is needed by skype-1.4.0.94-suse
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.4) is needed by skype-1.4.0.94-suse

Now, the libc.so.6 I can resolve it by installing glibc-2.4-31.1.i586.rpm but ask me to delete octave, and that is NOT cool.

All I need is to do is to be able to talk on skype in linux, I do not need the last bells & whistles (for now). Can somebody help me with a version that actually works on SUSE 10?

Thanks

What version of Suse are you running? It requires QT 4.2.1+, are you using openSUSE 10.2+ ?
Lolorase
Hi,
I finally put all my on family on windows' skype so I need it!
I just install Suse 10.2 amd64 and tried a lot to install skype 2.0... But I don't succeed...

Each time it failed :
LibqtCore or libQtGui was missing. i checked in Yast but are installed:
libqt4 version 4.2.1-20
libqt4-X11 version 4.2.1-20

I don't get it... I'm supprised that the rpm is a i586... why no x86_64 is available...

If i need to do a manual procedure with your dynamic or static archive, can you describe it?

Thanks
StevensOnln1
Skype only has 32bit RPM packages. If you look around, there are instructions for installing it on 64bit.

In between I have some machines running SuSE 10.3, I noticed that it does not work at all: It hangs after the login screen with a big white window.
Version is 1.4.0-118.suse

That is no generic problem since I'm running 1.4.0.118 and 2.0.0.13 w/o any issues on openSUSE 10.3 and 10.2 (even on x86-64 based systems).
