Ilfirin
Hello. I have one question. Will Skype 1.4 work?

Skype 1.3 !GOLD! is not functional as this forum shows. Skype is mysteriously freezing (and is not by hardware as some people talk. It id freezing everywhere on Debian-like distributions).

And Skype 1.4 alpha has bad sound with artefacts. And is very CPU-straining. Much more then 1.3 or Windows version. So the question is:

Will Skype for Linux work? And when?

Thank you very much.

I've been using Skype on Debian Testing for a long time now and I haven't had any problems at all with Skype 1.3 Gold. I've recently upgraded to Skype 1.4 Alpha which seems to work fine and the sound quality is noticeably better than in 1.3. smile.png

So you are blessed. Me and other people are not.

Hi Ilfirin, this is extremely strange, as we've dealt with almost all the serious sound bugs repoted from 1.3 in 1.4.

We've also noticed internally significant reductions in CPU usage, and improved quality amongst 1.4 and latest Windows/Mac users.

Can you advise your sound card config (sound card, ALSA version, etc) and distribution so we can get to the bottom of this?

Thanks,
Andrew.
