Full Version: Skype & Vista Audio Device Problems...
Skype Community > English > Hardware

First off hello all, as this is my first post here. Recently as most people may have heard VoIPVoice.com finally released their vista compatible VoIPVoice Integration software for their products (at least the newer of them).

The phone controls do work, and the keypad does indeed work as well as Skype popping up when you lift the handset on Windows Vista Ultimate (32-Bit)

However, here's the major problem, the Cyberphone W is not the windows default device for neither speakers or microphone, as I do wish to hear sounds through my normal speakers when the phone is not in use, and also I wish to use a normal mic for other aspects.

Having set Skype to use the Cyberphone W specifically as it's sound device, I make a test call and find I can't hear a thing even though the audio level indicators show audio activity it's not coming through the phone...

If I change the Cyberphone W to be the default windows device then it does indeed come through, but that's not what I wish to do, having all sounds coming through the phone is less than ideal.

Now, I'm not sure if this is a bug with Skype in Vista or the Cyberphone W, but has anyone else got a workaround? or even the same problem? Would love to hear any successes!

--- Additional Edit ---
I forgot to mention that I am using the latest Skype v3.2.0.158 for Windows, as that is what is required for the latest VoIP software.

Hi,

I have a Cyberphone W and Vista 32 bit. I am able to set the Skype audio settings to the VoIP Voice phone and also have my normal sounds (music etc..) playing through the PC speakers.

Best to make sure that you are using version 1.57 of the VoIPVoice Integration software, (I know there are some people using Vista with VVI version 1.56). Version 1.57 is available from www.voipvoice.com/software.html

Also it is best if you set the Skype audio settings to the VoIP Voice USB phone via TOOLS > OPTIONS > AUDIO SETTINGS with the phone on-hook.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi there Zinzin, thanks for your response, sorry I should really have made it clear I am already using v1.57 of the VoIP Voice Integration software, and also v3.2.0.158 of the Windows Skype Client.

As previously described I have already tried setting Skype numerous times to "VoIP USB Phone" and it saves the settings but yet when I make the test call no sound comes out of the phone, yet when I set the default device in vista to the VoIP USB Phone and then choose "use default device" in Skype sound comes out of the phone.

what version of Skype are you using? and have you installed all windows updates for Vista? I need to determine the differences between our set-ups to determine the source of my problems with Skype and the Cyberphone W.

Thanks for your help

Right, after some further testing, I seem to have come to the conclusion that it is Skype causing the problem and not the VoIP Voice Cyberphone W.

Here's My Set-up:

--------------------------
3 Sound Devices:
1 - RealTek HD Onboard Sound (Default when external speakers aren't plugged in)
2 - External Logitech USB Speakers (Default when plugged in)
3 - VoIP Voice Cyberphone W

OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 32-Bit

Skype Version: v3.2.0.163

VoIP Voice Integration Software: v1.57
--------------------------

Even though I DO tell Skype specifically to use the VoIP Voice Cyberphone W whilst the External Logitech Speakers remain Vista's default device, it seems to have a problem gaining access to the sound output itself.

What I mean is, if I set the VoIP Voice Cyberphone W to my default windows device, Skype is now able to output sound to the USB Phone, whether "Use Default Device" or the device specifically is selected... as soon as I return the Vista settings to using the external speakers as default and leaving Skype on using the VoIP Voice USB Phone it once again can't output the audio to the device.

This probably has something to do with Vista's new sound architecture and the developers not getting to grips fully... I say this because with all my other communications programs I have, they have no problem using the VoIP Voice device hardware properly...

In light of this, has anyone found a possible workaround? without having to set the VoIP Voice phone to be the default device whenever I want to use it?
