Is there a way to export call history to something like Word or Excel?

Thanks
lukman_chowdhury
skypeout call history can be exported if you login at www.skype.com and then look at calls & sms (history). there at the bottom you will see the option to "export to file" this will be saved as a csv file and can be read with excel, but i believe the formatng was not very nice.

skype to skype call history cannot be exported as far as i can recal

yes, seems so. someone else came to the same conclusion with regards to the skype to skype calls.

If you are using Windows, you can try the attached utility. Just unzip it and launch it, no installation is required. Some guidelines:
  • Before launching the program, Skype must be running, and you must be logged in (the program uses Skype's API to request the call info from the Skype).
  • When you launch the utility for the first time, Skype will pop up a warning message, and you must authorize the utility to connect to Skype.
  • As soon as the utility is running, it will automatically retrieve all call information (SkypeOut and Skype-to-Skype) from Skype. This can take a while, especially if you have a long call list. During this time, it can look as if the program is doing nothing, and rubbish will be displayed in the table in the utility's window. Please be patient and give it enough time to complete, and meaningful information should appear in the table. It can take minutes, if you have made many Skype calls.
  • After the utility has collected all call records, it will display them in a table that can be exported to a CSV file, or printed directly from the program. By the way: the call cost for SkypeOut calls does not include the connection fee, as the API does not (yet) have commands to retrieve it. Also, the call cost is calculated by simply multiplying the duration by the price per minute, so if you have a special SkypeOut plan, this calculated cost might not be correct, but I cannot test this.
I guarantee that there is no virus, adware or other malware in the program. You can download and use it for free, but I do not have the time to provide user support.

EDIT 22 June 2008: I get a lot of messages recently that the download link does not work any more. I found that the link works if you are logged in. So please, log in before trying to download the attachment.

I also replaced the attachment by a new version. The procedure in my program that verifies whether Skype is running can, in some cases, cause an error "xxxx is not a valid integer". With the new version, you can add the command line parameter /F if you get this error. If you launch the program with the command "SkypeCallExporter.exe /F", no check for a running copy of Skype will be done, so you have to make sure yourself that Skype is running.

EDIT 12 September 2008: New version, now prints user's name in the title of the report.

Accounts history surely goes back 12 months. But call history only 6 months.
in a nutshell:
1) chat history settings refer to chat, and chat only. for 1:1 chats, you will see whole stored history, regardless of how old it is.

2) only events less than 6 months old are shown on history tab. including chats, and regardless of chat history setting.

Thank you very much for replying. I was interested in call history and i needed it printed out. But i still can't seem to get it to work.

Thanks again.

In my data files I have history going back for over two years. I need to access this data and also voicemails. Since I have the data files, surely there is a way to access them? I specifically saved all of these files because I am involved in a legal battle and now I need them very badly!

Hope someone can help me with this.

I'm currently trying to prove an ongoing relationship for a US k1 marriage visa, Skypeout logs are completely useless as they do not indicate the calling party, only the final destination number. As well, they do not reveal the skype to skype calls, which were plentiful.

I've tried to grab the attached utility, but it is no longer available apparently. If Skype moderators removed it, you're a bunch of dinks... It's our call data, not yours, and I desparately need it.

Does anyone out there have a solution?

Edit: I was able to grab the file once signed in... I hope it works.

PS, hey Skype, you're still dinks for only having the final destination number and not the calling party in the skypeout logs and no way to export skype to skype calls. Get your act together, I've paid you plenty of money over the years.

Program works exactly as described, thank god.

Only problem for me is, I have used skype installations on three different computers, two of them I've been able to get the data off, one of them no longer accessible, but I DO still have the hard drive from it... I assume there is some encrypted file on that drive, which contains the bulk of the calls I might add, that I'd need to copy over somehow? I'll have to play around with that. If anyone knows the name of the file and it's location that's storing this data, I'd like to hear about it.

Hey Skype, sure would be nice if you kept all this data CENTRALIZED and easy to get at via signing in with our web account. It's somewhat ridiculous that you can't keep centralized records of complete user activity on your website for users to grab for personal, business or for forensic purposes, etc.
cfangerow
In particular I need to know if I can retrieve the SkypeIn call records. I am involved in a harrassment case and need these records to show proof of the dozens of harrassing calls I received during the time in question, which has now gone well beyond the six months that the Skype interface displays. I could be wrong, but I believe the records are still in the Skype data files, they just are filtered out in the History view. Anyway, I very much need these for my legal case. Had I known that they would disappear after 6 months I would have made efforts to at least save screenshots of the History view before they were gone. The fact that they are now gone means my case is gone too!

Anyone have any ideas for me?

Your Skype data files should be located in C:\Documents and Settings\windows user name\Application Data\Skype\skype-username . I also had files on many computers and a spare disk. If I were you I would back up your current skype files in that directory (just rename it) then find the same directory on your old hard drive and copy it to your current PC. When you reopen skype and run the utility you should see the files there. Once you have copied the files, you can remove that directory and replace with the original. I've done this several times and it seems to work ok.

I installed the utility and was very surprised and extremely pleased to see that it DOES include SkypeIn calls. The description given earlier made me think it only provided the Skype Out call and Skype to Skype data. I'm a very happy camper and my lawyer will be pleased too!

Best of luck to you.

I would rather Skype NOT keep all my call info and chats due to the privacy issues! And besides, Skype has many millions of users - can you imagine what it would take to maintain ALL that data and keep it secure? No thanks!
GLADIATOR
Please note SKYPE does NOT keep or store your chat history or messages.

all SKYPE keeps is your contacts and your account details.
The account details are kept as these are financial transactions that they have by law to store for THEIR accounts.

No other data is kept.

Chats are on YOUR PC only

I'm catching what you're throwing out there, but if Ebay's Paypal can keep 100 million users detailed finacial records secure on their servers, then it's smaller sister company, Skype, can keep centralized records secure too for those that opt in... I, and many others, pay handsomely for skype's premium services, COMPLETE and ACCURATE records would be a nice touch. The current logs for skypeout for instance, are a complete joke. I have my skypeout forwarded to my cell phone here so that I'm not tied to a computer all damn day, and all those calls I've received over the past 6 months of records all go to the same number with no details of who called. Thanks Skype.

god bless the guy that made that program to grab the history from the appdata, I owe you a six-pack of whatever you're drinkin'

100% agree. I was not defending SKYPE, just stating to one user that SKYPE stores very little info.
I agree the history info could be much better handled.

Yes, Skype COULD keep all of our records, but at what cost? In the last 28 months I have paid well over $20,000.00 in fees to PayPal and for that sort of money I EXPECT to have my records kept intact and secure. But even though I use quite heavily, I only pay an average of $13.00 per month for my Skype services and therefore am happy to manage my own data rather than pay more to have them manage it for me. I suppose a good compromise would be if they would offer a storage service for those who want to opt-in and pay for it, but I would rather they work on other improvements first.

I agree that the program to retrieve the history is brilliant -Let's give a toast to whoever came up with that little gem!

I found that this error is sometimes caused by the routine that checks whether Skype is really running. I will update the program and post a new version ASAP.

You're welcome. I don't know how much longer I will do this, however. The new "community" is a nightmare to use, and from what I've seen of the 4.0 beta I might stop using Skype alltogether.

lucdecauwer,
Sorry to hear that you might be giving up on Skype, if you do decide to move on is there a chance you could release your source to your excellent utilities

I have pretty much given up on Skype having useful interfaces for things and I would have to agree that it looks like the most recent Skype version was designed for teenagers and seems to assume that it will be the only thing on the screen...

However the actual calls still work well (for now at least) and that is what really matters and I can always just keep using the older release version in the hope that the new one gets polished to the point of being functional without having to consume the entire screen

Hooray for Version 4! I struggled trying to run a previous version under different versions of Skype. It worked for me last year, but not this year. Now the new version works. Thank you so much for this wonderful plug-in. It should be built in as an option in skype. I don't need a different avatar or wallpaper, but I *do* need to use my call data, and this is just wonderful.

Thanks, lucdecauwer!

Hi,

Luc, thanks so much for this plug-in! Since I'm about to start with requesting visa as well, this little application will certainly prove it's use.

About the format of the exported file: MS Excel indeed has trouble opening the CSV file. My personal trick: export to HTML, in your browser select everything and copy, in Excel go to menu "Edit" and press "Paste special" and select "Pasting as text/unicode text". (My Excel is in dutch, so I hope I translated in a understandable way.)

There's only one problem: if a cell is empty, it's filled with the HTML command <br>, so it may not all be on the same line. I could correct this by opening the HTML file first in an editor and use "Find and replace..." A bit of a long road, but it does the trick nicely.

If people want to add their name in the table, just add two extra columns in Excel with your username and displayed name (like your contacts). Simple as that! (Just drag the values down, to complete the colums, which is some basic Excel knowledge. wink.png )

Maybe this is a useful update? Or maybe export to CSV with a TAB as a divider for the cells, in stead of a COMMA. I don't know a lot about programming software, but it might do the trick. Nevertheless, this application is a great help. Keep up the good work! cool.png

You should be able to import the CSV file in Excel, no matter what the delimiter is. If you open the CSV file, and all data is displayed in the first column (Excel did not recognize the delimiter), then select that column, go to the "Data" menu in Excel, and select "Text to columns" option. You can then specify which delimiter is used, and Excel will split the data over several columns.

Hope this helps...
