I am using the newly released update, Skype for Linux 1.4.0.64 (alpha). Some of these may be due to my versions of glibc and qt, as Andypoo already mentioned a bug fixed by qt 4.3.3 ... I'm on Debian Lenny (testing), using glibc 2.3.6 (note the thread on glibc 2.4 dependence), qt 4.2.2, linux kernel 2.6.18.
  • The text box loses focus when I wheel through the history.
  • <esc> does not close the window unless the text box is in focus.
  • The "+" button for adding users is in a wonky place ... how about nearer the list of users? I know Berkus hinted at a redesign with respect to the user list when I asked about the wasted space earlier.
  • "/me whacks himself in the head" no longer does an IRC-style action despite that "/me [text]" is in the "/help" list. (I noticed IRC vs Skype chat styles are now grayed in the preferences, so I'm not in the wrong mode...)
  • "/leave" doesn't work when talking with only one person (maybe a feature ... but I liked using it as a subtle and polite way of saying "I am busy") -- this was also the case in alpha 1.4.0.58.
  • The first chat message is invisible ... I have to change the history view or hide the contacts to make it visible -- this was also the case in alpha 1.4.0.58.
  • Colors ... everybody is royal blue (a step up from black ...). I'd really like to see colors fixed to users as is the norm in most chat programs.
  • Smileys: you need a button to choose them from. I can't imagine this isn't in progress.
  • Option to disable sending some smileys: I would like to disable sending parenthetical smileys like "(no)" and "(pi)" as I more often mean to actually say those words. Currently, this is possible only manually with extra spaces or a font change (not yet implemented in 1.4).
  • "/help" gives a link to the windows chat help. You'll want a linux page before releasing 1.4 final.
  • I'd love to see a roadmap/timeline, even if it's really rough ... just a general mapping of what features to expect in the next update, what features to expect in the final 1.4 release, when the "beta" will be, when the "final" release will be, etc.

Look at the bug list for a partial view of the future:This doesn't give much of a game-plan, just a partial log of problems past and present; not too many enhancement requests there (as opposed to Firefox and like projects, which give you a rather fair clue about what's coming through the bug reports).
