Hi everyone.

The new GE 28310 skype phone (i.e. cordless independent of computer - hooks into router - same like the VoIP 841 et al) is available at walmart of all places.

Link is: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5750899

I already have the VoIP 841 (I couldn't wait until May for a phone). I would love for someone to get this phone and do a review on it. GE of course, is dependability plus (in the USA at least) and I would love to see what someone thinks about it.

I just love the GE 28310EE1!

Just switched from regular to the GE 28310EE1 VoIP with skype. Still hanging on 470K DSL connection. That will change tomorrow with 5M Times Warner cable.
Have 3 stations of the GE phone throughout the house. They don't have that piece of iron in them to make them feel hefty and sturdy, but they work fine.

Debunk the myths from other post on the web: One can dial extensions and maneuver touch-tone menus of companies.
Phone numbers and skype contacts coexist in the 200 entry list.

Phone Pros:
My wife likes the melody ringtones.
Distinct tones for Landline and SkypeIn calls.
All basic handset functions of a regular phone and more.
You can join conversations from a multitude of handsets. (No speakerphone necessary, see ring-up problem below)
2-line simultaneously (skype & landline)
Headset jack on handset.
Choice of dialing via landline and SkypeOut plus conference feature between the two.
Holds skype and phone contacts in list and autom. syncs all contacts between PC and handsets.
If you had a landline before, 911 should still work if you plug normal phone line into the base unit. (Phone Co. should leave 911 always active after discontinuing service)

Phone Cons: Can't wake handset display up (goes dark after a while) without entering a function.
Speaker phone seemed to introduce quite some echo due to ring-up & feedback (Speaker blairs right into Mic - what else to expect).
Menu items are not all sorted by frequency of use. I.e voicemail play near bottom.

Skype Pros: Skype is a great slim little company without large overhead and any computer realestate to maintain. It all runs on enduser and internet resources. I guess their prices will stay below competition for a good while. Skype rocks!

Skype Cons: One complaint so far about poor quality call after over a week of calling. Sometimes connection is muted i.e. other party can't hear you (Happened twice on international call so far) This may have to do with the DSL that I still have.
