I just picked up the GE phone with dual handsets. Installed the Skylink software and received calls ok. Right away there was a couple of issues that the manual didn't address, nor was there any support contact info anywhere to be found. 1 - my SkypeOut contacts showed up as a list of phone numbers rather than the name I entered in Skpe; 2 - calls placed from the handset would ring on my computer and the handset would turn off.
After some searching on the forum I stumbled on a german post with a link to a GE webpage about this phone. Voila, I found an updated driver which I installed and the issues were resolved. Thought I would post this (in english) for others having the same issue. The webpage is below.

I have been very pleased with this 2-in-1 phone. It set up smoothly and performs as advertised... (what a surprize!) Has great range and excellent voice quality in land-line mode. The Skype connection would skip frequently but generally similar to my PC based Skype calls.

I just got the same phone. Everything works fine except that my contacts do not appear on the phone. This of course means that I can't call out to a Skype contact, only to phone numbers using SkypeOut. Anyone else seen this problem?

I installed the software on my computer & ran it before connecting the phone's USB. Presto, my SkypeOut numbers and all contacts appear on the little phone screen.

Right.. sometimes customers do not realize that the Skype contacts are dependent on having the computer on -- with this particular model.

Of course, there are new DECT Skype Phones that do not require a computer at all.

The computer is on. Incoming calls ring to the phone properly. Outgoing SkypeOut calls work fine. Just my Skype contacts don't appear on the phone. I moved it to another computer and had the same problem. I tried an older version of Skype (2.5), and again had the same problem. I'll try calling the customer service number later today to see what they say.

Chief, pick up the phone and press the little button on the right hand side of the phone with a little phone symbol and the word "PC". That gives you your skype contacts and that's how you dial thru skype. You didn't try this, did you?

I recently bought a GE 21878 phone, which is the only GE phone model sold in the UAE (I'm resident in Abu Dhabi) -



I can't get it work fine with Skype -

- when I'm calling the Skype messaging service in the UK from the computer, the phone is taking the line, it displays it calls "echo123"... but I can't hear anything, and Skype detects there's a problem as it doesn't hear my voice.
- meanwhile, on the Skype window, there is an activity - I can see on the loudspeaker the sound is recognised... but it doesn't go to the phone...

I don't understand where the problem is coming from... as it did work once or twice. But keeping trying all the time, I cannot figure out what was the correct setting that made it work...

The software versions I'm using are as follow -

- Skype : 3.5.0.229
- Skylink 2.0.011
- PC : Windows XP sp 2

When I try to call, I mention "Audio USB Device" on both Skype and my PC. Strangely enough, if I try to connect it with my Logitech USB headset, there's no problem at all... To be noted that in both case (Logitech and GE) I'm using the same USB port.

Finally, the GE is working fine with the landline...

No one has an idea to solve my problem?

I can't install the software for this phone.. its frustrating, it lets me pick the language, then just shuts down. I've tried to install 100 times, rebooted, safe mode etc. Won't install. Waste of $80 so far... any ideas? I have a ~2 Ghz processor, 1 Ghz memory, XP pro and 60 GB of free hard drive space.

I downloaded this update but McAfee picked up a .ini file right way, after conducting whois lookup on its domain I decided to proceed and initial tests of this upgrade seem to work. Though I am not sure if I let some spyware in the door, seems a little odd...

This phone is a piece of junk. I just bought it today and was happy for JUST 5 MINS or so.

It started to show its face one by one.

1. First 5 Mins........everything seems Okie...

2. I type the numbers, press the Skype button. Noop.. its not simply calling. It shows "SKYPE"... a very quick blink.. and again shows "SKYPE".

3. But at the same time.. it calls the numbers when I manually choose the name from Skype Contact list......... Frustrating.

4. Tried to install.. uninstall.. remove the battery.. unplug the wires.... nnnoooopppp.. NO use.

Here is the funny part......

5. Unregistered the Phone...., trying to register it back....! "Noway Jose"...! Now it shows only "NOT REGISTERED".

6. I "Deregistered" all the handsets (1-6) from the Skylink software's Tools menu. GREAT... Now none of them working.

Hmmm... if I send this back.... packing charge, return charge & re-stocking charge......gggggrrrrrrrrr...!

If any of you know how to completely RESET this to factory mode (I tried that from their Settings Menu Option, chose DEFAULT, but no use).. please let me know.

Gonna wait for 2-3 days.. if nothing happens.. I am sending this junk back.

UPDATE: 11/7/2007

All in a sudden, it started to work again. I removed the power plug & batteries for about 20 mins and put them back... Poof..! Started.

And now, I tried to call the numbers with 001-extension (which is suggested by Skype) and now I am able to call. But how come, it was working b4, even when I didn't put 001 extension..?

WELL... I am okie with this one for now. Lets see..!

I've had this phone for awhile. The problem I have is that I have to add the number I want to call as a Skype contact before I can dial out from the phone. That is really dumb and I think I may take this back. If I'm dialing a one off number why would I want to store it as a Skype contact?? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The problem I have is that the phone will not work at all. I cannot dial out and I cannot recieve. I can still make calls using my pc, but cannot use the phone. What the heck am I doing wrong?

The link to the firmware update above is broken. Would someone in this forum be willing to e-mail or host the update? My phone absolutely does not work through my desktop (ActiveLink software does not recognize that the phone is connect to my CPU), and GE can't figure it out. I don't want to return the phone if the firmware upgrade would fix it. Thanks!

I know and im sorry I cant help..its annoying me as well, I even called the number they have on the website and it doesnt even work..im so screwed hubby just left for over seas..and I dont know what to do..if anyone can help it would be appreciated..Thanks..I did just talk to a guy cuz the phone number for a mark was on the website..they have his phone number in their by accident..I just found out the are UPDATING the website..SOOO we will see..if I find anything more out I will be sure to post a link for the skylink software if I get it ...Gl all

I guess you didnt read my post ..nor the fact that it was yesterday I posted...No its not working..we all are waiting to see whats going on..

If anyone is interested..luckily I had the software installed on my laptop so what I did was winzipped the files into 2 seperate files cuz yahoo doesnt allow more then a 10 mb file...so I saved it in 2 seperate files..then all you do is take all the files and unzip them in to 1 complete folder ...call it Skylink so you know..and all u do is click on the icon monitor and poof its working..I just did this for my desktop and sweet it works..so if anyone is interested send me a message with your email and Ill send you the files...it will come in zip format..and inside the zip folder it will say, skylink and the other file is skylink 2. open both of the folders that are in the zipped folder and put those into ONE folder, and then just click on the monitor icon and it will run..so please dont ask me more questions..that sums it up..and I have the files if needed..believe me I needed this bad for the desktop..and Im not getting any anwsers with GE asia or with us...so this is all I can offer you guys if you need it..

I had the same problem and I'm not sure if this is how it really should be done but what I did was I inputted all my contacts into my Skype contacts on the PC. From there, I could access the phone numbers from the GE phone. But what shows on the GE phone are just the phone number (without names). That's why I was asking Knickers how to download the link. In any case, I just read a newer posting wherein a good samaritan is offering the updated version. Would deifinitely be asking for that.

I bought the phone and got the driver working all ok, except i was hoping there was a way around having to dial 001 before numbers that are not in the contact list..?

I received the latest files from ftrileygirl last night. They resolved the issues I was having. I've placed them on my ftp server so she won't have to email everyone. Grab ge_skylink.zip and overwrite the files in your existing skylink folder, which can be found by default at... C:\Program Files\SkyLink . I'll try to make sure the files remain available until GE gets their act together. If you have problems connecting, be sure you are connecting anonymously.

It will automatically upgrade from previous versions and I can confirm it fixes the Skype name/number issue.

I've just got this phone and connect to my linksys router. The land line works fine, but I keep getting "comunication error" message whenever I try to sign in to Skype. When I try to get into settings/information, I get a getting data message and it returns to the previous menu.
I have done all the rebooting things suggested in the user's guide (rebooting the modem, the router and the base) without luck. Highly frustrating. Anyone can help?

Yes, it's the full install CD for version 2.0.0.11. Why it was pulled from regular distribution is beyond me. There are no viruses as may have been suggested above...

But hey, 41 Mb for a file isn't so bad when you have a broadband connection... which hopefully one would have if they expect VoIP of any flavor to work correctly...

On a side note, I have come to dislike 2 things about these phones... The lack of backlighting on the keypad (dialing in the dark is near impossible...) and the noise cancelling. It would seem that being able to hear a quiet conversation (even on PSTN) is greatly affected by noise cancelling on both ends of the call. This is mostly experienced when speaking with a party using a digital cordless phone. The audio just drops to a barely audible level until the other party speaks louder... Yes the volume on my end is at maximum... Really frustrating to be getting people to repeat themselves all the time...

Uh I hope you dont have this plugged into your router..because the phone needs to be plugged into your puter usb port and a wall plug...it sounds confusing and I wish I could help you..could u explain a lil more?



Ok mark one up for brain fart on my part.. no 41mb isnt big at all..exp now a days and LOL yeah if ur using voip and dial up..u will have major issues LOL...i didnt think till bahbah and i talked it had all the language packs..i deleted it all..so the 2 files were really small for yahoo..the link above still works..ur link works and I still have the files and still helping people..i dont mind Tis the season to be nice lol...

I have to say you guys rock!!! I installed the skylink version and my two phones are working awesome! I have to figure out how to switch between speakers (pc and handset thought), but so far totally dig having the handsets as a cool option to skype! Ah, gotta love Skype, just hanged up talking with my sis in Rio, and my wife's family in Sweden

I bough this same phone however I cannot get it working.

I followed the instructions however when I get to the step where I am to connect the phones usb to my computer windows xp says that it is an unknow device or Not Reconized.
