FYI
Here's a PR from Engin (Vonage type service in Australia) re using N95 with their setup.
A wizard is required, it seems:

Go mobile with Engin’s FREE untimed calls across
Australia on the NEW Nokia N95

Sydney, Australia – xx May 2007: Australians can now go ‘mobile’ and make FREE* untimed calls using
WiFi around Australia using Engin, Australia’s leading Broadband phone service and the new Nokia N95
multimedia computer.

As the pioneer of Internet Telephony in Australia, Engin was one of the first to offer a wireless Internet
phone (otherwise known as “VoIP”) service in Australia, using the Nokia N80. Now with the introduction of
the NEW Nokia N95, Engin and Nokia are furthering their collaboration to offer Australians high quality,
affordable, untimed calls from their mobile.

Making Internet phone calls using the Nokia N95 is as easy as making a traditional phone call. Like the
Nokia N80, the N95 is a dual mode phone, so consumers are able to use both Engin and regular GSM
calls, once the customer has signed up and activated their Engin account. Engin’s new service
complements the existing GSM/WCDMA service by making use of Wireless LAN (WLAN) broadband.

With Engin’s National plan, users pay a monthly fee of $14.95, which allows them to make FREE* untimed
local and national calls, or calls to mobiles at 22c per minute. What’s more, it’s free to call Engin to Engin.
Engin already offers home users an average saving of up to 55 per cent on their monthly phone bills,
cutting the cost of calling for over 60,000 families and small businesses across Australia.

“With WiFi now available in many homes and offices, it’s easier than ever for Australians to make the most
of the Engin network, and our low cost call rates using the new Nokia N95,” said Ilkka Tales, CEO, Engin.

“There’s no need to switch to your landline to benefit from the call savings you make with Engin,” he
continued.

You can try a new beta-version of IM+ for Skype Software for Series 60 v.3 phones: E-series and N-series except for N-Gage, N-Gage QD and N90.

The best Skype client for Nokia N95 by far is Fring (www.fring.com). It's free and puts all your Skype and MSN contacts in one place. Works brilliantly and best of all, it's free!!

I have an N95 & would like to download a mobile version of Skype.
I see that Fring is mentioned....and I've looked at it...but it isn't Skype although it may be a platform.
Does Skype support Fring?.....or approve it? Does Fring function exactly as Skype?....by that I mean the Skype charging system & rates?
I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who is using Fring. I do appreciate that Fring is a 'freebie' but before downloading I would like to learn a little more.
...........and why doesn't Skype have its own mobile program for the Nokia series into which the N95 falls?
ares
are you guys sleeping...fring lets you acess skype on the n95

Überoverlord........thanks, I'll look at that but, lokking at the illustration it seems that this facility can only be used with Skype PRO. Is this really so? I don't make all that many calls & an extra €2.00 every month isn't worth it. Your comments please.

Wrong forum. Moving to Mobility forum. 3 operator specific questions should be asked in the 3 Skype phone forum.

Hey, Gil from fring here. You should be able to use Skype on fring, it just depends on the type of device you use. Since fring is still in its beta version, we don't support all devices. Could you give me more info.?

Hi Guys,
To share my experience with N95 and skype on it.
Let me first start with the fact that I have a 3 skypephone which is brilliant and skype is just working as a normal desktop skype, except the skype-in and skype-out functions!!! From my research I found that the 3 skypephone is actually Amilo mobile phone with preloaded skype software from iSkoot. I won't go into details as the main point here is N95.
I ordered one N95 8GB from 3 five days ago and as soon as I received it the first thing to try was the Skype option. From very first look I was really disapointed as I was expecting something at least to the level of 3 skypephone. Nothing like that. The skype on N95 is some third party redirection software which is listing your Skype contacts and when trying to call them is using a call-back service to establish the connection. The call-back is so obvious that I would describe it as a pioneering prototype of something, but definatelly not a complete product. On other hand THERE IS NO SKYPE CHAT function!!! Basically there is no way you can send and receive a chat messages from your skype contacts.
I had a 5 hour conversation with 3 technical support and customer services trying to identify whether this is just a problem with me, or it is a general lack of the skype service 3 are offering with the N95. It turned up finally that just N95 doesn't have the Skype chat option and the skype calls are based on some kind of call-back service, which from my point of view is DIY ( let's just make it work somehow ) on behalf of 3. Finally, which is not directly related to the beauty of N95 is that 3 were refusing to cancel my contract under the 14 days peace of mind warranty, because I have used my headset!!!!! This made me furious as noone could explain me how am I supposed to try their service without switching on the handset N95. So be very cautious about 3 terms and conditions!!! Besides on their website N95 is described as Skype compatible! There are no remarks ( at least until yesterday ) that the skype service has any limitations or lacks.
[attachmentid=13326]
As a further trial I purchased N95 8GB from a different network ( I don't wana make advertisements, but if anyone wants to know I will give their name ) which came without skype, but with full internet access. On that N95 I tried loading FRING and IM+. The verdict is that FRING works just fine, supposedly you have a full ( not limited by TCP/IP ports ) internet from your Mobile network or from your WAN access point. It supports the skype calls and chat functions without any delays. I noticed that the level of the sound is perfect for the other side, but a little bit low for me to hear them even when increase the volume to max. But in general the overall experience is just 9.5 out of 10!
The second software IM+ for skype which I tired is using a call-back technology and this is just the first downside. I never managed to make it fully work on my N95, although I followed fully the instructions. It might be my mistake- I will confess that I didn't put too much efforts, because I found it useless for me using a call-back technology. I couldn't retrieve my skype contacts list, so I would appreciate if anyone have tried it and could describe how does it work ( as for dummies ) in step by step instruction. The second downside is that the software is not free, but I suppose that if it is a properly working one ( including normal skype call and chat features ) the price of $19.95 would be quite acceptable for everyone. As I couldn't retrieve my skype list I didn't have a chance to try the skype chat feature of IM+ for skype, so I cannot really make any comments on this and would be gratefull if anyone has something extra to add as personal experience and tests!!
As an addition I also tested iSkoot application for skype on Nokia N95 and the results are: fantastic user interface, perfect skype chat, skype calls are based on call-back technology ( probably using your skype in and skype out credits ) which makes not free. I experienced good quality of outbound calls to skype users, but they couldn't call me back. Their calls attempts were rejected with the voice message: "this customer number is currently unavailable". I assume this might have been because I exhausted my skype credits.
Please post any tests and updated information and please accept my appologies in advance if any of my tests were incomplete or were suffering of overall cover due to my mobile network or WAN limitations.

TO : SKYPE corporate boffins, or the project manager,

Skype for PC is working very well. You've also had a lot of users buying credits.

Can you give back some to us, paid users, to develop Skype for the NOKIA N95 properly. You've spent time developing it, why not continue to work on it so that Skype chat/out/in works via WiFi.

I'm sure there are a whole lot more users of the nokia N95 who are also paid (Skype credit) users. All those fiiting the category say I....
