Full Version: SSW Widget for Mac?

It's very frustrating being a Mac user. Ninety percent of the time developers don't bother to say whether their software is Mac compatible and it takes a heap of hunting before you (usually) find it isn't or (occasionally) find it is. Skype is no exception. A friend who's using Windows has been trying to speak to me. She can hear me loud and clear, I hear nothing from her. Skype help tells me she needs to click on the SSW widget which will enable her to choose her sound settings. That sounds like a good idea, I thought. How do I get it? Half an hour later I'm still none the wiser. I'm pretty sure the SSW widget only works on Windows but Skype has no intention of telling me that. Skype doesn't say where this widget comes from. Can someone out there put me out of my misery and assure me there is no Skype SSW widget for Mac and that there probably never will be?

Currently there's no Sound Settings Widget (=SSW) within Skype for Mac.

In Skype for Windows the SW is opened during a call by clicking on the headset icon on the call tab.

If it's any help, I've found that the Audio MIDI Setup utility helped me a lot with Mac Skype.

I have a Hulger P-Phone and a Hulger USB adapter. At first I found the audio output level to be excruciatingly loud. And I also found that SSW doesn't exist on the Mac version of Skype. However, in Audio MIDI Setup it's a straightforward exercise to adjust the input and output levels for the USB adapter until they're comfortable. YMMV I suppose depending on what you're using with Skype, but it does it for me.

NCR, you got my hopes up. I'm having a similar problem, but Audio MIDI Setup didn't fix it. In fact, it didn't seem to do anything. When I made a change in AMS, it simply duplicated the change in System Preferences/Sounds. In other words, AMS didn't do anything for me that Sounds wouldn't do. And my volume output is still too loud. Did I do something wrong?
