hello everyone,

just intalled skype binary ( Dynamic binary tar.bz2 ) on slackware10 - I also have it on Win2003server (dual boot toshiba, P4 2,8GHx, ADSL 1MB/254KB, 32MB nVidia GEForce, 512MB) - it seemed very slick and was very happy to see there was a linux package but..... when I called my g/f there was no sound signal at either ends - what do I need to check on my system to get that problem sorted? - any suggestions?

Thanx

Step one, check you system's sound configuration! A good guide for that is the Linux Sound FAQ in this Forum!
Once you checked it, and if you stil have problems, come back with your sound setup information!
Some eventual sound related output on console from skype might be helpful as well...

hey guys thanx to all anyway but i managed to get it to work on slackware10 - all I had to do was get the alsamixer and the Kmix to like each other (in terms of settings) - I hope that you will fix yours too - but, as member of the open-source software, I will be very happy to help if you ask me specific questions

good luck bigsmile.png

i'm trying to fix mine, and as i have some understanding of my mixers i don't think its the same as yours - can you please tell me - do you see in the console on startup the words "sound device not defined"

thanks

Hi,

I am running gentoo, with the newest karnel = 2.6.8. The alsa drivers have been compiled as modules, and I have tested them with other various programs. I am not running kde nor gnome, instead i do run fluxbox, therefore there are no sound daemons active, apart from alsa.

Has anyone an idea what may be heppening since I do get sound from programs such as xine or xmms or gaim?

I read the faqs already and followed every possible solution explained there. I also tryed compiling the drivers direct into the kernel and not a modules and that didn“t work either.

PS: Skype team: you have done a great work with this program, under windows it works fine, I really suggest you upgrade the sound system to alsa, since most of the users will be dealing with it in the future.

this is how I fixed it!!!

open file menu and then options and change the sound/headset device to /dev/sp1 (it should be /dev/sp0 by default) - after that open you sound control console and adjust all slides accordingly (keep calling the echo123 until you get the result that you want) -

I hope that this help

good luck
