How can one join a public chat with the LINUX client?

A list of public chats can for example be found under the following URL: http://searchskype.net/

Unfortunately you don't, as it says at the top of the page you must run a Windows or Mac version of Skype. Are these text chats?
Basically the Linux version is very limited no support for Skypecasts, SMS, video, etc.
If someone does find a way to make it work anyway please post it.
