Hi,
this is my first entry in an English forum, so please don't wonder.
I love talking with friends via skype. But one thing I miss is that i'd like to see them with their webcam and they me. I hate progs like Netmeeting or so. Can this feature be installed in skype, can't it?

Hi ballonchef2,

Welcome to the Forums!

A webcam feature is supposedly in the works for a furture version. For now most people use Skype for talking because the quality is so much better, then use a different program for video.

Yes I use Yahoo messenger for video and Skype for the voice part of the conversation but I do agree it would be a great feature to be able to use my web cam with Skype then I could ditch all other messenger programmes.

For video I have to use MSN Messenger, but I don't like it. It would be really great to have this feature in Skype.

yeah, video support is defenatly a must have for a future skype!

I do the same thing, but it is less than ideal... I do know this, when Skype does include webcams, I think it will blow the competition out of the water.

Hi!
Webcam support is one of the most asked features in this forum - I don't know why Skype-Staff doesn't give us some kind of hope.

Yesterday I happend to see a commercial on TV from the big US cable provider COMCAST (www.comcast.com - 6mio. internet users).
They promote their own video-conferencing tool and give you a FREE WEBCAM if you sign up with'em.
I don't ask skype to give me a free one, but I just want to sow how important it is to introduce this feature in skype soon. The sooner the better!
Skype-Staff's arrogancy on this topic (not to give any information - read the answear on another post of mine from the staff) doesn't make things easier.

Some other question I have is not directly skype relatet but for me as important. I do not have a webcam yet, but I want to buy one soon.
I was searching the internet for reviews, comparisions and detail information, but found only little.
Can you tell me (maybe on PM-basis) which experiences you have with certain webcams, how good video-converencing is really and which one I should buy. I was thinking of the logitech Orbit at the moment, bit the Apple iSight seems to be much better - but doesn't work on intel pc, or?

thx for your help smile.png!

You all need to bare in mind that not all Skype users would have a good enough internet connection to run both skype voice and skype cam, it is a good idea and maybe if 2 seperate versions was release, i.e one for a standard 56k conenction and the other for broadband that has the cam option it may work.

Why? I don't understand that. If I don't have a good enough connection, I just can't use that feature. There is no reason for 2 seperate versions!
Low connection speed = no video, there's no problem at all.

On the other side, elsewhere it is discussed to use plug-ins to add some more functionality to skype -that would be an even better solution for your concerns. MSM Messenger works that way and many others too.

If your argument was that with a build-in video feature, higher cpu power was required and so many people with older PC (some of my friends in Southern Amerika have such) were excluded from skype community, I would fully agree with you.

For me the webcam is not the most important things coz there are different others possibilities as YM+ Skype for instance. I use often this alternative and it work perfectly and the sound in skype stay perfect.
However the important item to add is the possibility in the future to send SMS(txt) :?: :!: :!:

@geopte: I don't see a need for webcam support either. But in my opinion any extra feature meight be another reason for somebody to use skype.

To send SMS would be great but to be able to receive too. With calls the same. smile.png

nex step for a communication with friends & partners...

Developers, release it please!

@lektor: you ryt and i follows your analyse. But the most urgent problem to fix now is that skype arrange to permit on people to get credit on skypeout.More than 100 complaints and me too.It is since weeks impoossible to add credit on skypeout with a lot of credit cards(visa)So as i have wrote in the forum much people will move on another provider such net2phone.
All my regards
