I just downloaded the beta 2.6 hoping to overcome a bug in 2.5 where my password wasn't saved properly after logging out, but after downloading the beta app, dropping it into my applications folder and replacing 2.5 with the new app, the new app fails to launch – any ideas. Was I meant to uninstall 2.5 before installing 2.6? I'm running 10.4.9 on an Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.16GHz.

I reinstalled and, fingers crossed, all seems to be working fine now.

I tried to install Skype but it fails to open. (both 2.6.0.72 Beta and previous version.)
I have re-installed several times but no improvement.
Can anybody help me?

I am using Powerbook G4/ 1Ghz and Mac OS X 10.3.9.
I am happily using Skype on the same net connection with an iMac Intel Core Duo 2Ghz / Mac OSX 10.4.9 with no problems.

Been having the same problem with the Skype app not opening when I try to start it. Basically, Skype crashes and cannot launch. Been happening since I downloaded the latest Skype 2.5 version. Thought upgrading to 2.6 might solve the issue, even though the latter is a beta version. Tried reinstalling to no avail. Same problem occurs even when I try to reinstall using older versions.

I am using a 1.33ghz iBook G4 with OS X 10.4.9. I have 512MB with about 20GB of hard disk space available. Any one have any suggestions?

Please review fonts, repair permissions and try deleting Skype prefs (backup them first if you want to restore them).

Thanks for the suggestions Carola. How do I find these prefs? When I do a "Find" search for "Skype", I only get the app (which will not open), and the crash log, which of course has nothing to do with preferences. Since I cannot open Skype, I have no idea how to get to Skype preferences if there is no folder.

This seems like a bug that affects a lot of users. I see posts about it everywhere, but no fixes, or discussion of developers working on a fix.

I had the same thing happen. It does one bounce then nothing. Has anyone come up with a fix? I have had to return to 2.5.

Which is your exact Mac model?

Which is your OS X version?

Try repairing disk permissions using Disk Utility.

Also download the latest version of Skype from here.
