The same problem is back. Starting Skype relaunches the install.
Do not just install "over" the old version
quite often some files are not updated correctly and get corrupt. One of the most common issues.
So first try this
delete config.xml
(You need to quit SKYPE first):any changes manually edited in this config.xml will be lost
To find Config .xml copy and paste the section in bold:
%AppData%\Skype into the address bar of Windows Explorer or IE and it will display all the files in that folder regardless of whether they’re hidden or not, you will see a folder with the same name as your Skype username, double click this folder to open it and you will see the comfig.xml file which you have to delete.
This config.xml will be rebuilt without any data loss, but hopefully error free, with next start of Skype.
You only must log in newly and Skype will rebuilt a new and correct config.xml
and will download all your contacts.
NOTE if you delete config.xml you MUST remember your password to relogin, and all options are reset to default.Delete Shared.xml
Now you need to find your Shared.xml fileTo find Share.xml copy and paste the section in bold:
%AppData%\Skype in the address bar of Windows Explorer or IE and it will display all the files in that folder regardless of whether they’re hidden or not, you will then see the Share.xml which is what you have to delete.
This Shared.xml file will be rebuilt without any data loss, but hopefully error free when you next start Skype.
If still not successful
Reinstall Skype – cleanUse add/remove
Allow deleting personal data
Now check
You need to select "show hidden files" in folder options
C:
Documents and settings
Your profile name
Application data
There should be no more any folder called Skype
If still exist --> delete
Go to
C:
Documents and settings
All Users
Application data
there should be no more any folder called Skype
If still exist --> delete
Download
RegSeeker (freeware)
Install
Go to "Search" in Regseeker
Type "Skype"
delete ALL entries regseeker finds.
Install Skype with using a different name
use "Skype1.4" instead of only "Skype" for example
Reboot your PC
