Full Version: Still waiting on authenticated proxy support...

Skype 2.6 still doesn't support authenticated HTTP/HTTPS or SOCKS5 proxies.

EDIT: Just saw the reply to my post re:2.5 beta. Using Mac OS X 10.3(.9) and 10.4(.8). We have both at our institution.

EDIT 2: Emoticons: OFF...

Don't get your post.

Is it still relevant problem?

Yes it is. 2.6 beta has the same problem as 2.5, 2.5 beta, and all the ones before it.

I posted about this in 2.5, and you replied asking what OS I was using. I only just noticed it after I posted about the 2.6 beta, and was giving you the answer here: we're using Mac OS X 10.3.9 and 10.4.8.

It is still a relevant problem - we are still entirely unable to get Skype to connect through our proxy servers because it does not appear to support authenticated HTTP/HTTPS. There is no authentication requested, and Skype also does not ask to use my proxy password already stored on my Keychain. I get this error:

Sign In Error:
Failed to sign in: https proxy authentication failed

Reminder that Skype is not displaying a proxy login dialogue, nor has it asked to use my proxy keychain item. At first glance, the above message might seem like my password was wrong, however Skype has never ever tried to obtain my password, so whatever it's trying to do with our proxy, it's the wrong thing.

If you look at the Windows version, it has a full proxy configuration panel with SOCKS5 and HTTPS options, including the ability to enable authentication. The Mac version needs the same thing. Or, if it is going to continue using the settings in System Preferences, it needs to support the same capabilities, even if the settings themselves continue to come from System Preferences.

Skype should respect system wide proxy settings and use them.

Can you please make log files?

It does, but it is Skype's job to ask for proxy authentication, and it's not doing that. Skype knows about the proxy, it absolutely does. But it just does not support authentication. Respecting System Preferences does not automatically get you proxy authentication. THAT is and has always been the problem. It has never EVER been about Skype not knowing that there's a proxy, or where it gets the info about it. It's that Skype will not ask for authentication when it is supposed to.

Sorry, it's just really frustrating describing the problem again and again in something like 11 posts and multiple bug reports over the last 18 months, and feeling like the issue still isn't understood:

Skype needs to support proxy authentication. It doesn't.

I will do so. Where shall I send them? (Doesn't seem to be mentioned on that page.)

Attach them here. I will forward them.

Hi Deejemon
I setup an environment like this here in the office and I was able to reproduce thanks. I've forwarded this to the engineers and I'll hope we can get you a fix soon.

Thanks, Ryan.

Still, for the record, and just in case there is anything extra they can tell you, here are my logs.[attachmentid=9447]

Looks like a fix didn't make it into the 2.6 (2.6.0.137) release?
Deejemon
Or 2.6.0.140.
