Full Version: How to Terminate Skype service and receive refund?!
Skype Community > English > Skype products > Payments, Billing, Skype Credit

Greetings all,

I just joined skype last night and was also eager to place an order for the new netgear cordless phone. After jumping the gun, I did some research and found another provider cheaper and probably better than skype that uses the sip configurations. Now I paid in full for a full year of skypeOut and a full year of skypein w/voicemail. For a total of $68.00 Now I been reading alot about the horrors with the refunds, and billing dept for skype. But what are the first steps I should take to terminate my account after only one day (maybe half hour) usage? Also would skype provide me with a full or partial refund if I explain to them that I am dissatisfied and was leaning towards another voip provider? Also, I have searched extensively through the forums and knowledge base before posting and nothing on cancellation for the annual packages. Can someone please point me in the right direction? thanks a bunch!

P.s. I should of known better and used my amex instead of my debit as I would of then been able to dispute it with their customer service. sadsmile.png

you should be able to get full refunds, well minus few cents as i believe they work on pro rata basis for services other than skypeout credit. and i assume by a full years skypeout you are refering to a plan such as the unlimited calling plan.

but well, in my opinion, and from my interactions with those who ask for refunds, the refund department is generally very good and you should have no problems in getting the refund.

your starting point would be to write to them using http://support.skype.com/?_a=tickets&_m=submit and ensure you address it to the refunds department.

Was there a problem in answering MY question?? Since you quoted ME in your question up there!
Just wondering.
Tina
and just so everyone is certain, I didn't try to hijack some elses thread, I just assumed that they wanted all complaints in one spot, seeing how many they are getting I can see how some people's get ignored.
I apologize for intruding on someon elses thread, but I thought that was the best way to get help.
Instead of cluttering up a message board where the message would get lost.

I don't mind the thread hijacking in this case. And to tell you the truth I think we should leave this one open for all further cancellations and refund. I don't see why start a new thread on the same topic when one is already in place. As long as the reply is in topic with the post then I really don't mind. Let's make this a sticky.

Thanks Tina

I am not looking for a refund...I am trying to give Skype money to pay the annual fee for my SkypeIn number. I want to use my credit dard however each time I try to use 2 different cards they are "refused". I have checked with my card companies and there is no reason for the refusal and they do not understand why I am having such an issue. This is the first time I have had a problem and my number will expire in a few days so time is urgently of the essence. Any feedback??

Payments by credit card are periodically blocked by Skype's third party payment processor.
This is an anti-fraud measure and in no way reflects on any individual's creditworthiness.
Assuming you are not accessing the internet via a proxy server and your card has not been used to fund another Skype account please file a support ticket as soon as possible highlighting the problem.

doh.png okay ya'll.
This is gone on long enough.
what is going on with my refund?
Clearly your product doesn't work, and you have kept my money.
What is the hold up?
I know you all were contacted on the 4th and you do too... so why do you keep putting me off?

I can see this thing dragging for a while!
SCAM BURST
When my account was charged with random rates , wrong usage minutes and mathematical errors. They did not reply in last two weeks.
Only one auto generated email came to me with the link asking me to check FAQ.
I wrote several email, but no response, But i only now see that my account is locked.

Skype really sucks. I have been charged 0.06 $ per minute for north america, in some cases 0.10 $ per minute all random.

It looks like a skype is into severe corporate mockery and scandals.

Read my complaints on various forums which I posted when I did not get any resolution from these jokers at skype whose whereabouts is somewhere in estonia and or netherlands.

http://ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff243768.htm

http://www.my3cents.com/showReview.cgi?id=20966

I have disputed this issue with paypal through which I paid charges, but it seems they are also part of scandal and my first compalaint towards resolution is dismissed, reasons being """ they do not entertain or handle such issues with skype"""

BEWARE OF SKYPE , PAYPAL... OFF LATE I FEEL DUE TO BAD SITUATION OF EUROPEAN ECONOMY COMPANIES HERE ARE RESORTING TO SUCH SCANDALOUS ACTIVITIES WITHOUT FEAR OF LAW.

Umm, what kind of payment actually works? Tried 2 different Visa cards, a Mastercard and even your own Paypal failed. Credit card companies either see no attempt to even place a transaction, or no reason why the transaction wasn't completed. Paypal always works fine with eBay, but not with a Skype payment apparently. You guys always have the same answer. File a report and wait for 4 or more days. If you don't want to take credit cards, why not just say that up front, and tell us what kind of payment you will accept without a problem to make the user experience a bit easier. Please!

I hope not.
Skype has a very good record with refunds.
They normally complete in around 3 weeks.

Sympathize with your situation.
The credit card/PayPal issue seems to be 'hit and miss'.
The advice we give is as a result of what eventually produces positive results from our experience.
Skype personnel regularly read these posts and will see what you're saying to them.

THREE WEEKS and you call that good????
there are some folks that have waited over a month....I guess we are really at the mercy of skype because we were stupid enough to trust we would be given quality service.
I will definatly NOT renew anything from skype.
I wont use it in the future.
I will most certainly let my friends know the headache that this has all been.
It isn't right to have so many unhappy people.... the boards are full of them.....

Have a good weekend.....while I sit and wonder what week, if any, I will ever really and truly get my refund.

Tina - I was referring to the fact that Skype have a very good record in issuing refunds and not the length of time it takes to receive them.
Be that as it may I have placed this thread with a Moderator and hope that your problem is soon resolved.
