Just thought I'd post this. I am no techie but thought this may help a few people. Perhaps someone could post a reason, but this worked for me
Problem: Connected to ISP network over broadband wireless router. IE works perfectly (and very quickly) over wifi BUT Skype Refused to work
Solution: IE works when you have the settings for your wifi connection configured as Private/Work Network BUT skype refuses to log in giving you the 'network connection' error. You will need to edit the config for your personal network, or any public network you log into under Start=>settings=>connections=>wifi settings=>wifi then high-light the connection and choose menu, then option 1 for edit.
If you change the configuration to The Internet (my ISP in some cases I think - but that may be on the PPC edition), your IE will stop working BUT Skype will log on perfectly.
Its a bit of a pain and it took me lots of searching to find this out so I was very frustrated. Now, however I am just hoping that someone in the development team can deal with this. I have a hunch it has something to do with proxy but I wouldn't want to confuse anyone so I'm not going to discuss that here
Hope this helps someone here anyway. It stopped me throwing the damn thing against the wall anyway!!!!!
cheers
