Full Version: sound capture auto-level

Iam running Skype 1.3.0.53 on openSUSE Linux 10. Mixer is kmix 2.6.1 running KDE 3.4.2.

I have built a phone to sound card adaptor found on Grynx.com. The adaptor works great, but many people I call complain they are hearing an echo of their own voice. Tweaking the settings, I found this echo goes away if I turn "capture" all the way down. The problem is the level won't stay there and automatically goes all the way back up every time I place a skype call.

I would love the disable this auto-level feature. I tried closing kmix and opening volume control instead. "capture" still does the same thing. The level goes all the way up when I make a call.

Any thoughts on disabling this auto-level feature?

Very cool, thanks for the reply. I will check it out and report back.

For now I have given up on the skype adaptor I made for my phone and using the mic and speakers works well. no complaints of echo, plus sound quality is much better on my voice. I am using one of those round microphones that used to come with apple computers and it does a great job.

I tried Globe, installed it and it would never run. Reinstalled, nothing. So I did another Google search and found Gizmo Project for Linux. Not only is it running, but it is running well. It has check boxes for echo cancellation and auto-level. Gizmo sounds WAY better than Skype and costs a lot more too. 2 cents per minute for domestic calls.
