There is no Skype client for Symbian.
You can use Fring (www.fring.com): it is a great, useful, free software with a built-in thin Skype client that allows you also to make SkypeOUT calls.
Unfortunately it doesn't work correctly if you have subscribed SkypePRO, due SkypePRO particular way to control where you are (analizing your IP).

I'm trying to decide whether to buy Windows Mobile or Symbian and the fact that Skype isn't released on Symbian is a real down side.

It seems that the phone companies could be worried that with WiFi enabled phones people will use Skype to make free calls rather than via their network. For example 3 mobile have released their new phones with a Skype client but it's locked to their system and probably is not WiFi enabled...

Come on Skype people, get you act together and release an open version of Skype for Symbian - it really can't be that hard!

Hmm

I have tried FRING ( fine for SKYPE chat) , but the audio on SKYPE calls is AWFUL.. too quiet..

Can you think of something I'm doing wrong?

I have ALWAYS had Nokias but may have to abandon them as so many of my business contacts use SKYPE ... :-(

I don't really like talking Fring on Skype forums ... and like some Nokia users, find the Skype support for our smartphones a little disappointing (though sure it will come through sometime soon).

Fring does support Skype to Skype calls, and to call TO a Skype contact (NOT Skype Out), select Fring call. It works for me, though the quality is not as good as on a PC/Laptop in my opinion. But, it works.

File sending (small pictures, .doc files, etc. is an option, but after selecting it promptly informs that file sending is not supported for Skype.

BTW, I'm using a Nokia N95 8GB ...

Michael,

Have a look at your laptop and your N95... Do you really expect them both to provide the same audio results just because they can both access the internet using the same access point?

Although the N95 8GB is a brilliant device, you can not compare its processor to the PC one.
