New Skype Serbo-Croatian (Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian) Skype 1.0.0.29 version is ready.
Just copy the downloaded file into the Skype installed folder and select it :
Tool / Select language / Load user defined language.
Then select " Serbo-croatian_1.0.0.29_20040923_sekularacDparis.lang ".


Novi Skype 1.0.0.29 prevod na SrpskoHrvatskom jeziku (Bosanski, Hrvatski i Srpski) je spreman.
Jednostavno kopirajte dovnlodovani fajl u Skype instaliranom folder_u i selektirati :
Alati / Izaberite jezik / Load user defined language.
Selektujte potom "Serbo-croatian_1.0.0.29_20040923_sekularacDparis.lang".


La nouvelle traduction de Skype 1.0.0.29 en langue Serbo-croate (Bosniaque, Croate et Serbe) est prête.

It has to be redone from scratch.

I'm sorry to say about this opinion... without any figure or percentage of errors ... that is funny.

Serbo-Croatian language don't exist.
That is first error...

Unless these are the same language :idea:

Well, any native Serbian/Croatian/Bosnian speaker will tell you that it's just not proper langage, nor proper translation.

For example.

1. No diacritics (š đ č ć ž)

2. Menu items should be in imperative forms, not infinitive. E.g. "snimi", not "snimiti".

3. Too many words with initial capitals. This may be OK in English, but is just plain wrong in S/C/B.

4. And what is most important: translations are poor, some phrases are even hilarious. I quote:

"Ponuditi prijatelja(cu) da postane Skype korisnik" should be "Ponuditi prijatelju...". A dative form, not accusative should be used.

"Raportirati problem" should be "Prijaviti problem"

"A propo" (for English "About" in "Help" menu)" is absolutely meaningless in S/C/B (in this context!).

"View" (as in "View" menu, "View toolbar", etc.) is "Objaviti" in your translation. This is absolute nonsense. "Objaviti" means "to publish" or "make public".

What on Earth is "tchat" (it's all over the place)? French for "chat"?

...etc, etc.

NHF, but it seems to me that you've been living abroad for quite some time now, and you can't reliably tell a difference between a proper S/C/B phrase and a crudely translated French (or English) one. Additionally, you are unfamiliar with established software terminology and translation (or localization) practices in S/C/B.

That shouldn't be your concern. It's up to the end-user to configure his/her OS appropriately. If a Chinese user wants to use Chinese Skype, he better first make sure his OS can display Chinese. If not, he should use English.

Anyway, in Windows XP unicode enviroment there shouldn't be any problems with š đ č ć ž.


No, it's not better. Singular form should be used, since it's usually interpreted as giving the computer an order to do something, not vice versa. Singular forms in menus are used in Serbian Windows XP and Serbian Office 2003.


I don't think that's neccessary and it certainly doesn't look nice. Besides, "prijatelj" CAN mean simply "a friend of unspecified gender", as in "Ona je moj prijatelj".

I'm sorry that I don't have time to discuss other details. You might want to take a look at the list of English/Serbian terms used in the Serbian version of Microsoft Office 2003 (http://www.microsoft.co.yu/office/office_d.../pojmovnik1.htm)

Localizing software is certainly a difficult and time-consuming job. When and if I find enough time, I will perhaps offer my own version of the Skype translation.
