Hi there,
I've got to say, I think that the single most important aspect of 3.2 is the new codec. I'm very very impressed.
Don't want to complain at all, but I know you guys have an eye for detail so you might want to fix this one... when checking the new Control Panel Settings, I see the Estonian flag in front of the currency. I would also like to see the Euro implemented there, but right now they'll have to do with the Kroon. ;-)
Just messing with you guys... Keep up the excellent work!

Hi there,

Well, i think this new codec use double as mutch bandwide as in the former version of Skype ? - Holding the mouse over "Used bandwide" it shows 6-7 Kbit with sound only (no Video) In the former versions it shows about 3 Kbit. - is this correct ?.
Yesterday i used v. 3.2 and my talking partner used an older version, and it shows 3 Kbit as usual, Today we used v. 3.2 in both ends, and now it shows 6-7 Kbit. - If this is correct, the new codec use more than 100 % more bandwide than the old one ?.

Bandwidth usage depends on that how much free bandwidth you have.

Raul,
I just checked my account now, and it does display a European flag. Before it showed me an Estonian flag. Odd... but that's ok now.
Will we ever be able to decide what codec we want to use ourselves, or would that be messing around with Skype too much? I'm sure you can restrict the connection so it will automatically choose the less demanding codec, but will we ever be able to choose it ourselves?

As for using the new Codec, you can only use that if both parties have the new codec (ie Skype 3.2 beta or higher) installed.

FlashFreak it this problem occurs on 3.1 also then it is not related to new codec.
Upgrade to 3.2 and make call to echo123 and see how it works, if okay then problem is on her side. Let her to do the same and she should also upgrade to latest version of Skype.

I am also impressed by the new codecs.
It produce better sound.
but I also ever got bad sound. or a Blank Sound at the begining.
I will try and check again. because this is not always happen
I hope skype smart enough when checking the available bandwith to be used by skype, so it can be optimum for Dialup, ADSL, Leased line and other speed.

About the new codec.
I haven't yet tested it thoroughly, still after some time my impression is negative.
It definitelly uses more bandwidth than the previous one. The quality is about the same, still, I experienced some problems with the skype test call (broken sound - both ways.) The previous codec seemed to be so good, I even checked the technical data -that's how good it seemed. Right now I think I'd rather have the old one back. However, I expect you will improve on it so I don't reject it as yet.
Anyway, keep up the good work.
Regards
edit: I checked some more and I get better quality with AMR-WB than with the new one. The bandwidth is also less (according to netpeeker) - maximally 3 KB(bytes) per sec and usually about 2. With svopc it was twice as much.
With svopc a test call basically fails I am afraid, I have just had a 2 hour long conversation with amr-wb and there was zero % failed packets, with perfect quality.
When I speek with a friend who has the older version of skype, amr-wb is used. In such case, it consumes half the transfer of the svopc( roughly) and the quality is superb, about better than a phone. With a decent usb headset it should be even better.
Last thing - after my friend updatek her skype to the newest version, we couldn't talk at all, and she was using decent hardware. So I returned to the amr-wb version, sorry to say it.
