Full Version: Mic fails after a while

hi,

I use Ubuntu 6.10 (alsa 1.0.11, skype 1.3.0.53). Other people can hear me and I can hear myself clearly when calling echo123, however, in longer conversations, after a few minutes, my mic suddenly fails. I cannot be heard any longer. Testing with echo123, I can only hear disrupted fragments of myself and lots of static noise. The last time this happened, I then played a little with the alsa controls of my device, and although I did not really change anything, it worked again later on...

The sound card is an HDA Intel by Realtek ((ICH6 Family) High Definition Audio Controller), for which I had to add

CODE
options snd-hda-intel model=z71v

to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base in order to get sound from the headphone jack. Setting no model for the snd-hda-intel results in sound from the internal laptop speakers only...

Anyone similar problems? Experiences with HDA Intel chips?

I have the same problem and same card, actually.
arecord works really well, but with skype i get very bad sound quality + this problem that you described. It is skype's problem 100%.

I do have exactly the same problem, though other hardware. I am using Skype since years on Linux, and recently (some months ago) I updated to a version that requires or uses ALSA. Since then I am experiencing this problem. Capture device disables after a while (open Kmix again, enabling MIC and Capture solves temoporaryly the problem) and choppy sound quality on echo123 and other calls. Definetively my DSL is ok (tried with other XP pc on same lan), PC running linux 10.x with regular Mic was performing perfectly before I upgraded to thi ALSA version 1.3.0.53

Cheers
