It seems there is an error on the download page. Use this version instead: http://www.skype.com/download/skype/mobile...smart_beta.html

BTW, this question belong to the Windows Mobile forum.

1) Make sure you download from the link I provided above, NOT from the download web page.
2) Make sure you have at least ActiveSync 4.2 installed.
3) Connect your PDA to your computer and execute the .exe file from your desktop computer.

I managed to get Skype Beta for Windows Mobile installed on my Blackjack.

Initially I had the same install error when I tried with the .exe file even as I used the link provided in the forum. But then I just downloaded the .CAB file, copied it to the mobile phone using the ActiveSync Explore window, installed the CAB file from the phone file browser and viola - it worked.

I did get connect error the first time I tried to start it, but I guess my phone may have been out of 3G coverage, because a few minutes later it worked. I am now singed in and see all of my contacts.

Thank you Skype!!!

hi stoyan,

have you been able to actually make a call? i'm able to login to skype, see my contacts, changes settings, etc. but as soon as i try to make a call it freezes. i've even tried overclocking my blackjack to 240 and 252 mhz but even that doesn't help.

hope we all get this working soon!

thanks

I have the same problem -- connection/login OK, but making any call (e.g., to echo123, the testing service) just freezes the phone. I did select "WiFi and 3G" as the connection type, and the phone warned that no Wifi connection was available.

Any ideas?

Since Skyp calling basically works on all other supported devices, maybe there is a problem with this specific PDA model. It might be worth a try contacting Samsung support about the problem, maybe they have some driver problem for example.

I think the problem MAY have to do with the cell service provider (Cingular USA) -- perhaps they are blocking Skype traffic in some way?

OK , its all installed:

So here is the problem I can call a land line or cell phone number with no issue at all, the quality is a little suspect however.

I can some times even send chat mesages sometimes!!!!

I have even called other skype contacts but was unable to hear or speak, they recieved the ring but were unable to hear me.

THe unit freezes up and then you have to restart the phone.

If any one has fiqured this out let me know.

Yes, Skype + Blackjack = frozen phone requiring a soft reset. And no, it's not the CPU speed. My BlackJack is tweaked to 240Mhz and Skype freezes (it places the call and freezes during the call - to a point where you need to soft-reset the phone - even xbar won't shut it down...) ... so processor speed is not the issue (you can overclock BlackJack using OmapClock - search Google).

The same Skype version worked nicely on the weaker T-Mobile SDA WM5 (US version)... even in 2.5G it did not freeze, although the voice was very choppy (with WiFi it worked great).

So - Skype + BlackJack freezing must be a specific problem which must be addressed by Skype if it wants to address what is quickly becoming the single most successful smartphone in Windows Mobile history.

hi, just to share some of my experience:

- successfully installed Skype for SmartPhone on my Samsung BlackJack
- called Skype Test Call and was able to hear myself back
- was able to call and leave voice mails and get voicemails too. clarity of the voice is really good! (guess it depends on the 3G coverage)
- chat functionality worked without probs
- was able to place a call to my bf (who's in the US, me in the Philippines) but like everyone's saying, froze up when he picked up
- was able to receive call (but i had an on-going chat session) and when i picked up the call, phone froze and had to do hard reset (remove the batt)

i think Skype is close to getting it to work on Samsung BlackJack (can't wait til it happens!) i bet so many ppl are gonna be excited about this when they finally get this to work flawlessly. it is so close! BlackJack's an awesome phone and i hate to give up on Skype not doing this.

thanks Skype!
