This is very odd. Whenever I attempt to install the Skype Toolbar for Outlook on my Laptop I get the folowing message:

Runtime Error (at 57:161)
Dll RegisterServer failed; code 0x80070005

I am using Skype version 3.0 and MS Outlook 2003. with Windows XP SP2.

I already installed it on my Home PC and everything went fine. The only difference is that my home PC has XP Professional and my Laptop, which is giving me the problem, has XP Home.

I already used the Detect and Repair on MS Outlook and that did nothing.

P.S. Additional. Whenever I open up Skype and Outlook on my Laptop, ALL of my Outlook contacts populate my Skype Contacts. This does not happen on my Home PC.

Hi
Thank you for reporting this error. We apologize for the trouble!
Are you the local administrator on the laptop machine? You cannot install the Skype Toolbar for Outlook without being a local adminstrator. Of course, the error message should be more informative so I am doubtful that this is actually the problem.
Is there any other information you can share?

I am the local administrator and the owner of the laptop. The account I logged into has administrative rights. I have 2 accounts on the laptop. 1 - administrative with a password. 2 - Guest account with no password or administrative rights. Also, I tried to initially install the Toolbar for IE on the laptop and got the same message, but everything worked fine on my Home PC.

Hello, I.m experimenting the same problem.
I'm the administrator of the PC.
I have Outlook 2003.
I tried also to fix Outlook installation problems using the Outlook tool.
But I get the same error at the end of installation...

Hi,
I am sorry to say that we don't have a solution for these installation problems. We will continue to research it, of course.

Hi,
are there any news to solve that problem.

I have Outlook 2003. After installing Skype 3.0.0.198 I get a error message by starting Outlook and Outlook closes itself immediately. Unfortunately I have no administator rights and cannot de-install the toolbar ad-ons in Windows Control Panel/Programs. By installing Skype I unfortunately had no attention for the default checked box for the ad-on software. I'm very angry abut the malfunction. Why the ad-on is checked for installing by default ???
Please, I need help to get my Outlook working again and remove the inessential ad-on !

Regards

Hi,
I don't understand - how did you manage to install the Skype Toolbar for Outlook without administrator permissions on your computer?
It is not installed by default with Skype - you have to download an extra application.
We will of course do what we can to help you - but right now I don't understand what could be wrong on your system.

Hi,
We still do not have any clues as to what might be the cause of this problem, regretfully.
I have suggested the following remedies before but they still remain valid:
1. Run Detect and Repair from the Outlook Help menu.
2. Check for updates to Outlook on MS Office update

hi,
As I managed to find a solution maybe you can use it too...
When I download the IE skype web toolbar FROM Skype I get a file which is 2891 Ko and which create a runtime error....When I download the IE skype web toolbar FROM the IE addons ( http://www.ieaddons.com/AddOn.aspx?cid=2&a...61-0dddeca2aefc )I get a file with the same name which is 1401 Ko and works fine !!!!!!!!

Hope it helps, but I still have the same runtime error fir Firefox and I didn't find a solution ( or a better downloadable file !!!)

I'm having this same problem. I have admin privilages. And, I'm getting these same almost identical errors on both the Firefox toolbar and the Outlook toolbar. Has anyone found anything to fix this so I can install the toolbars?

runtime error (at 50:161): DllRegisterServerFailed; code 0x80070005.

I don't use IE. So, I can't try the previously mentioned ie suggested workaround.

Hi all,
Regretfully we are unable to reproduc the error you are reporting, but our firm belie is that this is caused by some kind of permissions denial.
Since most of the components used in toolbas build on top of the Windows COM development framework we register COM(ActiveX) servers as an essential part of the setup. Evidently this fails on your systems for some reason.

There are several things you could try:
1. Run the setup as an administrator (seems most of you already have done thatsf)
2. Disable any anti-virus software during install (remember to turn them on again after install)
3. Try it on another computer. Does it still behave in the same way?

Did you ever get this problem fixed? I have exactly the same experience.

thanks!

Whilst browsing the faqs on the innosetup website I found this:

Setup gives the message "Unable to register the DLL/OCX: DllRegisterServer export not found"

This message normally means that you specified the "regserver" flag on a file that doesn't possess the ability to be registered. Remove the "regserver" flag from the [Files] entry and the message will go away.

Could the growing number of problems regarding skype toolbars be due to an error on your part whilst compiling the toobar install file?

Hi,
I wish that was the problem - in that case it would be easy to fix!
The installer works for many thousands of users who install it, so something must be different about your computer, permissions, anti-virus applications etc. Any clues you can share would be very helpful.

The problem is indeed that a file can not be registered as a com-server on your computer. That is the way all toolbars work. They are registered as com-servers that the host application initiates when it starts.

Hi
Yesterday I finally got to see this problem live and can confirm that for that user - it was NOT a permissions error but something amiss in the installer, after all.

I am delighted to be proven wrong and we now have a new installer build of the BETA that will hopefully fix this issue.
You can find it at:
https://developer.skype.com/SkypeToolbars/
The version with the new installer is numbered 1.1.0.35.

My sincere apologies for the long delay in fixing this and your patience in reporting it over and over.
