I've tried every permutation recommended to get beta 154 to work well with me but still no real luck. If I start a 3 way conference then my CPU usage quickly climbs to 100%, everything grinds to a halt and I have to quit Skype.

However when one of the other two members starts a conference, everything works perfectly and my CPU usage stays down in the 30% margin. This is the same with single conversations, both with Skype and Skypeout, although I can talk for longer then.

The problem is definitely at my end but I wish I could work out what it is. I'm running WinXP SP2 on an AMD Athlon with 1Gbyte of RAM.

Sounds firewall related:

Exit/Close your current Skype by clicking in system try Skype icon (down near the right corner green spot)
and choosing “Quit” from there if needed.
Open firewall, in programs, deletes Skype.
Run Skype and allow connecting
This also affects SP2 users who should follow above procedure.
With SP2 firewall.
Disabling external firewall will enable XP firewall by default.
So if you disable any other firewall XP firewall will now block your connections.
So remove Skype from XP firewall program list as well

Download latest Skype setup file again, but now download to a different location than last time. Do not use default location.
Install Skype to a different location than last time with a different name
Do NOT use default name, use "Skype2" for example.

Done all of that, several times :-(

I use Outpost Firewall and have even given skype abslolute rights but it only works for a time and then hangs.

That's a new one :-)

Hadn't though of doing that so I'll give it a go. Do I have to save any file so that I keep my addresses and names? Looking at the Skype folder there's nothing there so I presume not although I'll not completely delete the old folder until I've installed into the new one and all is up and running.

Thanks,

Richard
