UPDATE: this was available for a while today but we had to pull it since we got reports of some potentially pretty disastrous bugs. If you managed to download the update and it works for you, no need to worry, but for others, we’ll post another beta update when we have more info on this.

Skype v3 Bogs Down PC even AFTER you Quit!

I downloaded and installed Skype Version 3.0 BETA on all of our computers last night. ( version 3.0.0.154 )

I love the new integration of Skypecasts -- which will be VERY useful -- especially for us...

The integration of the Pamela software "extra" is nice too... (...and that it is free!) After a very quick test, it seems to record calls just fine.

So far, I've only noticed a few little problems.... and one BIG problem.... with Skype version 3.0 BETA.

Let's hope it's only because this is still a BETA version, and they will correct this before releasing it as an official version.

I was watching TV on my Windows Media Center PC, and the recorded program was stopping and jerking.... I could tell that the PC was really bogged down... However, I had just rebooted... and nothing was running other than Skype...

So I Quit the Skype application. The Media Center was still the same... all jerky and bogged down... Nothing else was running.

That made me suspect that Skype was leaving something in memory... and/or leaving some process(es) running... even after completely Quiting the application.

So, I launched Skype..., logged off..., then logged in again UNCHECKING the box next to "Start Skype when the computer starts"...

Then, I Quit Skype completely... Waited a few minutes... And then I rebooted the computer... Upon attempting to shut down, Windows gave me an "END NOW" dialog box about a program called SkypePM.exe, or something like that... Which confirmed that Skype v3 Beta DOES leave something running -- even after Quiting the program completely...

Finally, after rebooting WITHOUT Skype automatically starting.... the the Media Center worked just fine...

Confirming that Skype had left some processes running... even after it was Quit...

This is a HUGE FLAW... I sure hope they work it out before releasing this as an official version.

Broce thanks for reporting first of all.

Few questions to you.

If you quit Skype and kill SkypePM.exe from task manager does then recordings work as usual?

I have not been able to perform SkypeOut calls since a few days ago when I added US$10 of SkypeOut credit.

Skype tells me that my account is blocked, though I have not received any communication from Skype staff about it, nor there is anything mentioned in my account page when I login into the Skype website.

I can perform Skype calls to other Skype contacts, but no SkypeOut calls.

I had already issued two requests to Skype support asking them why my account is blocked for SkypeOut calls, but I haven't received any answer so far...

Is this a beta issue? Should I retry with the stable release?

Hello!
(I dont know if we shouldnt post bugs under this topic...but...)

1) I've noticed that if you adjust the speakers volume in the Skype (headphones icon at call window) it won't be remembered next time you start the Skype, it always stays at 50% by default...the mic volume though remembers the last settings.

2) for unknown reason right click on taskbar icon does not show "hang up" option if you are in call. Then once Skype main windows opened, that option is available at task bar icon.

3) there is no way prevent skype main window popup on incoming call: dangerous + annoying. I hope after 1 year of such nonsense, the developers finally let us chose the way we want the popup works...(bug reported please vote on that page, so it might be resolved sooner)
