Guys, anyone knows if Skype PPC will work on this?

I know it's got a 200MHz microprocessor but it's a motorola and I had read motorola cannot be compared to intel. Don't know how true that is.

Would like to run Skype PPC on it?

Any ideas?

No, not without overclocking or registry hack. Search the forum for details.

Did some reading since I posted this and it seems the short answer is no.

Thank you for responding.

That really sucks, because I just bought the dash. 80% of the reason being - I would be able to run Skype on it. Guess not! Didn't realize a brand new HTC phone was only 210mhz.

Hopefully Skype comes out with a version capable of running on Windows Mobile Smart Phone Edition.
For now it only runs on Windows Mobile Pocket PC edition and indeed requires a CPU of at least 400MHz.

Others have already thought of suggesting it though: http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=46008

Let's wait and see.

I too bought the DASH thinking it would run Skype. However, I am still within my mandated-by-law return period. The question becomes, is there any device which DOES run Skype, and has all the other features of the Dash? And if not, what features do the other devices lack? Eg. WIFI, being a quad-band GSM phone with speakerphone, being fully Internet capable, being seen by your regular PC so you can easily transfer apps, music for ringtones etc, running Windows Mobile (just for familiarity), using some sort of card memory (Dash is microSD), using USB to connect, and being portable! I don't much care about Bluetooth, or even it being an MP3 player, since frankly the sound quality on speakerphone is tinny.

???

I got Skype to work on the Dash... here is my write up:

Ready for VOIP for your Dash? Here ya go...

I have posted previoulsy on how to install Skype on the MDA and SDA. I had some issues with installing Skype on the Dash, but I got it to work. I did some reading on the net and people said it was not do able becuase of the new Skype version that was out, and I myself had problems, but it does work.

In my area using Skype, even with Tmobile's Edge and an overclocked processor the call was still choppy. However when using Wifi and the overclocked processor it worked GREAT!

First off download these files.

www.nickienadjustin.com/skypefordash.zip
www.nickieandjustin.com/omapclock.zip

Unzip both Zip Folders to your desktop. Put the folder "Program Files" on your memory card. In the Program Files folder you created on your memory card, cut and paste the file omapclock.exe. The take the files in the Windows folder and move them to the Windows folder of your Dash.

Ok... now you are ready. You will need to turn on your Wifi or have Edge service to continue.

Use the file explorer on your phone to goto the file OMAPCLOCK. This is overclocking your processor on the Dash, some say it's hurtful, but the only bad thing that will happen is the Dash will power cycle it's self if you try to overclock it to much. I use the 276 MHZ setting. Anything over that and it will reboot its self. After you set the processor to that setting you need to click "action" , then "set clock". Then exit out of that program. Every time you want to use Skype, you will need to do this step. It will not stay set after you close Skype. You can set it to stay overclocked, but it will use your battery like crazy!

Ok... now click on skype.exe in the Program Files/Skype folder on your memory card. It is alot easier to alreasy have set up a skpe acount on your PC before you begin. Now you will have to scroll down to the bottom of the terms and conditions page.... It takes forever to get there. There should be an "Accept" button there, but it won;t show up... After you scroll all the way to the bottom, and you see the cursor blinking, press the enter key on the dash. (looks like an arrow under the del key). You will also need to sign in. Make sure you click on save my login info so you don't have to do this everytime. Once again there is no login button. I pressed the space and enter key, and one of those will get it to sign in. Once you are signed in you are good to go.... any questions email me at justinbwill@hotmail.com

This website is not working anymore, is there an alternate site to download the skyperfordash.zip file from?
