Full Version: Partly fixed sound problem

I've recently upgraded to the skype.png 2.6 beta to see if it would fix a problem I've been having. I have used SkypeOut for a long time and just recently started using SkypeIn. The other parties on nearly all of my calls have reported a loud clicking sound on the line, but I could never hear this. It first became apparent to me when I recorded a voicemail message for SkypeIn and played it back, only to hear this mysterious clicking sound myself.
So, I figured it must have been a problem with my handset (a CyberPhone K, Model: v652skMLR), since I couldn't hear it at all. I did a little test, recording a few second using Windows Sound Recorder, but found that there was no clicking at all! In fact, the sound quality was great!
It seems that the problem only seems to occur with Skype. I also thought that it might have had something to do with the phone being connected via a USB hub, but the problem persisted even when directly connected.
Upgrading to the 2.6 beta seems to have made some improvement. I've been asking people on both SkypeIn & Out calls if they can hear the clicking and some have said they could not hear it at all, whereas others say that it is still there, but a little fainter.
I also use the VoIPVoice Integration software (1.53) for the phone, so that I am able to use its full functionality.

Does anyone have an idea what the problem could be? Have you experienced this yourself?

Many thanks in advance!

Can you try calling echo123 does this clicking sound appear there also?

What OS are you using?

Is it updated?

What sound card you have?

I just called echo123 and was very surprised. The problem is still there and the clicking was ridiculously loud! The playback sounded like I was standing next to a machine gun..

I'm using Windows XP Home Edition and it is fully updated. My (laptop) sound card is a Conexant CX20468-31 AC97. But, since the phone is a USB connection, would this have anything to do with the sound card?

Many thanks

OK, having done a little testing I am now fairly sure that the clicking only occurs on SkypeOut calls, not when I receive SkypeIn calls.
When I call my cell phone from Skype I hear the noise, but when I call Skype from my cell phone, I don't...

We will investigate this bit more.

How's the investigating coming along? As I would rather like to be able to use my phone again... sadsmile.png

Many thanks

Can you please enable logging (https://developer.skype.com/Support/LogFile) and send log files to me?

You should reproduce your problem while logging is enabled.

OK, I made a simple test call to echo123 and the playback contained the loud clicking sound. The debugger has created two files debug-20061016-1728.log and debug-20061016-1728.trace.txt, but the forum won't let me attach them to this message (Upload failed. You are not permitted to upload a file with that file extension.) How should I send them to you?

Thanks.

Thank you for the logs.

We are investigating them.

Well, after two weeks of "investigation" (i.e. nothing at all) I decided to buy a new handset, having decided that that must be the problem. I bought a Linksys CIT200 cordless handset, and the problem is gone. Crystal clear calls! But now my SkypeIn doesn't work, so no-one can call me anyway. See here for details: http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic...mp;#entry314699

I would like to thank Skype for doing absolutely nothing to help fix the problem and for not communicating with me once no.png

Cheer up! smile.png
The people from Skype are very busy and it takes time for them to answer you, but I'm sure that they'll do anything they can to help you! wink.png

Best regards,

@ Калин: Oh, I understand that they are busy, but frankly don't see that as an excuse for a lack of communication. Just take a quick browse through the forums and you will find many a disgruntled customer. It would only take 5 minutes to post a note on the homepage that Skype is currently experiencing technical problems and to ask for customers' patience regarding the matter. Now, that wouldn't be asking too much, would it?

In this case why don't you contact Raul via Skype and ask him about your issue? wasntme.png

Because (as I wrote above) I finally resolved the issue myself through the purchase of a new handset.
