Full Version: Video Problem with Skype Beta 2.6.0.97,2.6.102,2.6.105
Skype Community > English > Development, Betas and Skype Garage > Archive > Skype for Windows 2.6 Beta (historic, read only)

Video was working with skype 2.5 versions at home as well as
at work (It still does work with openwengo)

As far as I remember it DID work with early skype 2.6 BETAS at
home and at work.

It does NOT work anymore with the newest skype 2.6 BETA (2.6.0.97)
neither at work nor at home.

Strangely if I go to skype options and test the web cam it works! (of
course video is enabled!) And if I call videoecho123 it works!

If I am calling someone with or without webcam (both tested) he/she
does see a black screen and I see just nothing, all white, not even
myself (as I was used to)

Is there a workaround?

specs:
I am using a logitech webcam with the newest driver at work on a 3 Mhz
Pentium 4 with 1 Gig RAM, Direct X 9.0; at home I have a Dell inspiron
8200 1.7 Mhz Pentium Mobile with 512 MB RAM with a Hercules Webcam,
newest driver, Direct X 9.0.

I could not create an account, it was not accepting my skype password.

The forum is accepting it and I did not find a post so I dropped the message here.

The bug filed there was with an older version and I did not find a "known issue" so I thought it is maybe a good idea to make here a post that the problem (still or again?) exists with a newer version.

I'm having almost the same problem. The difference is that even if I call videoecho123 the video doesn't work. Skype Staff do something about this issue

I have the same. Here is a little more detail:

On Friday last week it worked in a call between me and a friend. I used 2.6.0.97 and he used 2.5

In the call I asked him to update to version 2.6.0.97 too as I thought there were some improvements. So we closed the call, he updated and we called again and oops, the video did not work anymore.

So what I saying is the video worked in 2.6.0.97 as long as my partner used 2.5 but since both are using the latest 2.6 video doesn't work anymore. Test video works though.

In my case it doesn't matter what version me and my friends are using - I still don't have video sadsmile.png

In my case I am the only one on Beta, all others use 2.5.something

I'm so angry!!! angry.png
I tried the new version of the BETA (2.6.0.103) but my video still doesn't work! I downloaded Skype 2.5.0.146 and my video works perfect but I don't want to stay with this dead version - I like the new features of 2.6 but I hate it because I don't have video.
Skype Staff believe me that the problem is not in my system because everything works with 2.5 . The problem is in 2.6 (97 and 103). I know that you're going to say that this is a BETA release ( I know what "BETA" means) but even if this is a BETA your job is to fix such problems.
I don't want to sound rude but don't forget that there are other programs like Skype who offer video calls.
Don't think of this as a threat but if you don't fix this problem I'll be forced to leave Skype no matter how good is the sound quality!

Please fix this video problem!!!!

Hello, maybe you can try reporting the bug above and jira works for you after sign up? Screenshots and Log file (.log and .trace) are required .

This will be required in any case, otherwise it cannot be fixed.

Please there is no reason for getting upset. If you would have looked at the change log http://skype.com/download/skype/windows/changelog.html then you would have noticed that there is no bugfix for video.

Please describe your problem little bit more in detail.

It is not possible do to anything if you just sya it does not work.

What webcam do you use?
Is it detected?
Does Skype video test work?
What OS do you use?
sgrosse
Well some of the questions are already answered in my top post.

Yes both are detected in skype options.

QUOTE(Raul Liive @ Thu Oct 12 2006, 09:31)

Does Skype video test work?

Yes as does videoecho. As I told before videoconference was working with older skype betas (sorry that I dont remember which number) and for sure with skype 2.5.x before I downloaded the Beta...

When I call someone I see a blank white screen, I dont even see the usual video window where one does see himself...

Have you submitted this issue on devzone? I'm asking because this would help us to track progress and to vote for the issue to be handled with priority. If so, please share the issue number here. Thanks.

After I was able to log into JIRA I added a comment. The issue is already filed there as I believe:
scw-42 and scw-107

as of now the developers (through Raul Liive) should have several log files.

Why is so quiet here? Have you forgotten about the "no video" problem in 2.6.0.10x? I have to say that I didn't forget!!!
I'm using 2.6.0.105 and I still don't have video. I'm maybe repeating myself but all of my friends who have webcams (and even people without webcams) and upgraded to 2.6.0.97 or later version can't send and can't receive video!!!The big surprise is that the "test webcam" works!!! surprised.png
I even reinstalled my OS and installed my drivers again but the "no video" problem persists!!! I sent log files ( I hope I'm not the only one) to Raul Liive but he didn't respond.

Same problems here, with 2.6.0.103. Seems every beta has this problems. I can't receive video from the stable skype release (2.5.x) and they can't see me also.

Kalin we are working on your issue.

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3000+

Skype ver: 2.6.0.103

The video was working before, when I was using the previous (non beta versions). I upgraded to the Beta and when my friends call me, they use 2.5 latest, I only see theyr picture as an ordinary call without a webcam. But the other party has enabled the webcam, I asked them if they are. That's it.

Have you enabled video calls?

Does Skype recognizes your webcam?

Can you try to call videoecho123, does it work?

Right now I don't have my webcam. Yes, It was recognized. I have enabled video calls, and didn't work. This is skype issue as I see there are other people with the same problem. I had been calling the videoecho123 service and it didn't showed nothing.

Does Skype video test work correctly for you?

Video does not work for me either.
I use Amitech Web Camera
It works fine in the test window in skype.
But in a call, it does not work.
Sometimes a grey/black window appears - the container for the video.
But no video.

Using 2.6.0.105
Please fix it

Kalin, I dont understand wh you are that uneasy about that problem. 2.5 series of skype does work perfect with video. Beta versions always have some things not working or are buggy/crashing. So if you need video simply switch back to "stable" 2.5 and wait for final 2.6 release.

Since so many people experience the same problem with the beta I am sure skype developers experience those problems themselves and do something about it. Since finding the error is sometimes annoyingly difficult the more complex the code gets I would say: easy goin' mate!
nafcom
Sorry if it sounds harsh, but: Beta = unfinished test version with may contain still bugs!
If you have a problem with that, return to the latest final.

2.6 has some features I really like and that's why I'm so pushy. The audio is great, the live tab, the skypecast controls in the client, and 2.6 looks more friendly that 2.5! The video was working in the PREVIEW and the early BETA-s but now all of a sudden it stopped. The last BETA with which I had video was 2.6.0.81. It drives me crazy that the change log doesn't say anything about video changes in 2.6.0.97 , 2.6.0.103 , 2.6.0.105 but since the 0.97 came the video problem occurred. Do you understand me now?

Well, so you have to stick with 2.6.0.81 till it got fixed, again.
Being pushy won't help you at all.
As far as I know, there are not so many "feauture differences" between .105 and .81. smile.png
