Pamela v3.0 BETA is not working well with Skype v2.6 BETA. I don't know if this is a Pamela issue or a Skype issue, most likely a Pamela problem. But Pamela is often not recording my calls automatically like it should, and it has prematurely stop a recording even though it said it was still running. angry.png

Other people are reporting this same problem...

What version of Pamela are you running? They have just changed to version 3.0.0.26. Have you reported the problem in the Pamela forums?. What version of Skype 2.6 are you running? You must understand that when you run BETA version of programs you can have problems. You have to underestand you are running two beta products that communicate together. The best solution is to report the problems and then they can be looked at and fixed in the nest release. If you need Pamela and Skype for your business you should use the stable versions.

Hi Radio Free Finland,

Thanks for the info. We suspect that the premature ending of a recording was a bug in earlier Pamela/Skype builds.

The automatic recording function is available in Pamela Standard, Pro and Business. What Pamela version do you have installed (please post the build number which you can find in the about screen in the help menu)?

Also please make sure you use Skype 2.6.0.97 which includes fixes in the audio engine of Skype. This is where Pamela gets the audio streams from.

I still have problems with the latest Skype Beta and the latest Pamela. Nothing "earlier" about it.

Instead of picking up on a Skype call and offering to record, Pamela compains about not getting any sounds from Skype.

When I reported them on the Pamela forum this week, the response, on Thursday, was that there is a bug in the Skype.

We have traced this back to being a bug in the Skype audio API. It has been reported to Skype and we expect a fix shortly.

The advice was to "Just restart Skype and/or Pamela to try to resolve it temporarily."

This is not much help when you have just started a call.

This is a pretty severe bug, whoever hatched it. The title of this message seems like good advice.

Will have to see if the earlier version of Pamela still works as expected.

You may be interested in the Atcom AU-600 Skype gateway's call recording feature. You can configure it to record all calls, or to start and stop recording during calls by entering codes on the phone's keypad (#7 to start, #8 to stop recording, for example). The calls are recorded as wav files, and have no time limit.

Kenward,

This is a confirmed bug in Skype. Unfortunately usually the add-on applications tend to get the critics for a bug that is outside their control.

The issue has in the meantime been fixed by Skype and we will just have to await an updated Skype 2.6 release. See here: http://forum.skype.com/index.php?act=ST&f=48&t=61634

In other words, to quote the title of this discussion "Don't use Pamela v3.0 BETA".

Pamela should have a large warning about this so that people know not to download and use Pamela 3.0. It should also tell people how to deal with the issue.

Just telling me that it is not a problem with Pamela does not help me. Apart from waiting, and not recording any calls, what am I supposed to do? Use an earlier version of Pamela with Skype 2.6? Go back to Skype 2.5?

I appreciate that the problem is with Skype, but Skype works fine. Pamela doesn't.

Hi,

Our FAQ pages have a big fat notice about this issue. Yes, if there is a problem it is common practice to revert back to the latest public stable release.

This is not good enough. It is better simply not to put out the software at all.

Pamela is there to record calls.

Pamela beta does not record calls with Skype beta.

What is the point of having Pamela beta out there?

It does not matter where the problem rests.

Has anybody used TotalRecorder with Skype?

I think I will give it a try as I have TotalRecorder Pro.

As far as I can recall, TotalRecorder has not put out software, even as a beta version, that the author knows does not work.
