I live in Spain and would like to get a USB phone for my Mac. Has anyone got any recommendations and a good place to buy either in Spain or the UK.

Thanks

Hi there, I also live in Spain colega! smile.png

You can go to lots of places including Carrefour and l Corte Inglés. Even at eBay there are lots of USB mics, and if you visit the Skype Store (click in the button at the top of this page) you'll find a starter kit for mac including a USB micro with headphones for 20€.

Is it possible to get the Yealink B2K anywhere in Europe - eg Spain or UK. Delivery costs from the US are too high...
AmperorDirect.com
You can try our fully staffed UK office... alhtough I am not sure of their inventory levels.

I wouldn't waste your time or money on the B2K.

I've had nothing but problems with the B2K adapter on Mac OS X, and their support has been less than supportive (their choicest suggestion to date was to switch to Windows). I've finally thrown in the towel on the device, and am now testing the Tradetouch SkypeKey. It doesn't have the Skype/POTS switching capability of the B2K, but then again what good is that feature when the B2K doesn't work to begin with? Thus far, the SkypeKey works, other than the fact that it forces you to either use a quick-dial setting or dial an entire number (00+country+number+#)--even if you have Skype set with a default country code, the SkyATA software doesn't care. I've notified their support about this, and am awaiting a response--we'll see if they're more on-the-ball than the B2K folks. Other than that, though, the SkypeKey works--it has yet to fail to give a dialtone, which the B2K failed to do on a regular basis.

I have the SkypeKey hooked to a two-line 5.8GHz cordless phone system...I get POTS dialtone on line 1, and SkypeKey dialtone on line 2. Works like a champ.

UPDATE: There appears to be a conflict between the SkypeKey device and Mac OS X 10.4.9. If you are using a SkypeKey, do not update to 10.4.9!

I just got me one a them skypekey gizmo's and find that I can't get the sucker to function! I got a iMac G5 w/ 20" screen w/isight. I had to go on-line and download the drivers for the USB device as My slot CD/DVD driver wont take those half-sized discs which the drivers came on in the package. Got a cordless phone hooked up, have skype with credit on my account, I just can't seem to figure out the problem? Any one out there thats got theirs workin wanna enlighten me on where it is that I am going wrong?

I have switched back to using the Yealink B2K adapter, under Mac OS X 10.4.10 on a G4 tower and a G4 PowerBook. It still has issues, SkyMacMate is flaky, but it's generally stable (I use custom AppleScripts to keep things running) and it doesn't kernel-panic the system like the SkyATA software.

Unfortunately, neither Yealink nor Tradetouch has demonstrated any desire to fix Mac-related issues and update their software in a timely fashion. The Tradetouch SkyATA Windows software was updated in April 2007, but the Mac version is still from mid-2006, and is obviously still buggy. Yealink's SkyMacMate still has issues with Intel-based Macs, which have been on the market for...how long? 18 months? Pathetic.

These companies produce crappy Mac software, then say they can't devote resources to Mac support due to low sales in the Mac market. Hello, catch-22? There's no way anyone can recommend these products to Mac users, especially to folks who want to use Skype as a POTS replacement, a la Vonage or Lingo. There's a good Mac market out there, but Mac folks tend to have a low tolerance for poorly-written software. These programmers could get plenty of help from the Apple Developer Connection, too--Apple is very nice to developers--so they really have no excuse.

I feel for the guys like Amperor Direct, who are caught in the middle, trying to satisfy their customers but getting no help from the manufacturers.

I guess I'll keep checkin in to see if they got there crap workin. I have 10.4.10 version and I can use skype on my system without the skypekey hooked up, if I slap that USB monkey in, I can't get skype to function at all.
I'd re-sell the crap, only I don't pass junk on to freinds, so I just hope they get there heads out-a there rears and fix there stuff!

Just another quick update...after upgrading to an Intel-based Mac mini and Mac OS X 10.5.5, the B2K adapter wouldn't work at all. I am now using the SkypeKey, and (other than the annoying dialout requirements I mentioned before) it's working great.
