Full Version: Two /dev/dspX devices in configuration tab?

Hi,

First, let me thank you guys for writing Skype using the fabulous QT toolkit so that it was feature portable to Linux. I use Skype all the time, and your SkypeOut service is second to none.

However, I'm one of many users who has a second soundcard exclusively for use with their headset. I've got Creative Audigy 2 sound providing my desktop with sound (ALSA drivers /dev/dsp interface) and nForce2 onboard sound with my headset permanently connected to it (/dev/dsp1).

However, whenever somebody calls me, the ringing comes through the headset, not my primary soundcard. As a result if I'm not in the room, or I'm playing music, I don't hear the call.

I'd really like it if Skype sound effects (UI effects, not call data) was configurable to be routed to another /dev/dsp device, and regular call data (mic and headset) could be sent to a secondary device.

This would make skype more like a real phone (consider, the phone's ringer as separate to the phone's receiver).

Thanks!

I would love that too! I guess this would be easy if they add ALSA support to Skype, With alsa you can even make your own "virtual" sound cards with input from one card and output to another.

If anyone knows how to do this through OSS emulation, please tell.

As tormodv says, the feature will be there with ALSA support. The date for having it cannot yet be said.
