Full Version: How to find logs and fix "segmentation fault"?

Recently I started to get these "segmentation fault" errors and then Skype closes. On the command line it gives me only this message with no more data. I searched for the log in my pc to see if I can get more info about the error with no luck.
Can anybody tell me how to set it to be a little more verbose so that I can proper diagnose the problem and start looking for answers?

thanks in advance.

Segementation Faults only happen using the aoss script or through the artsd and esd server.

Please upgrade to 1.3.0.53 and use ALSA, there shouldn't be any segmentation faults.

Thanks deltatux for your reply. I'll update a.s.a.p. and see what happens.

Deltatux, I have a question here:
I installed 1.3.0.53, I checked in Tools->Options->Sound Devices and everything is ALSA. I even lauch Skype from the command line just typing "skype".

However I'm still suffering from "segmentation faults".

Can you suggest me additional tests, checks, anything to verify why it's still happening?

Thanks for any piece of advice you can give me (besides dropping Ubuntu, I can't really do that smile.png ).

ok, double check that you have the latest ALSA version and try these instructions by Kallewoof:

QUOTE

1. Clear your configuration:

$ mv ~/.asoundrc.asoundconf ~/.asoundrc.asoundconf.old

2. Create a new one using asoundconf:

$ asoundconf list # list all sound cards
Names of available sound cards:
[a list with names]

$ asoundconf set-default-card IDENTIFIER # pick IDENTIFIER as your default card

3. RESTART Skype.
